I agree with Diri that as long as Kurdish leaders have the support of the Kurdish people behind them, their negative actions should be criticized and positive actions extolled. It is too costly for the Kurdish people to pit themselves against their leaders at the expense of their relations with the mass of the people who support them. Having said this, I also know that it is easier said than done. If you criticize a leader than you are against him - period. Our concept of nationalism does not extend far beyond the parties and the cult of personality that surrounds it.

Although I am no fan of Apo, if he congratulates Barzani in becoming President and sees it as a step towards self-determination I will praise Apo. However, I've yet to see a statement supporting self-determination by Apo, or one supporting Barzani or Talabani.

In this case, I think the credit should go to Kongra-Gel -- from what I have read, most of Apo's comments have been completely contradictory to Zubeyir Aydar's.

Some times I wonder what Apo is thinking...
According to Abbas Vali, the great Kurdish scholar of Kurdish nationalism, Apo has lost his intellecual hegemony of Turkish Kurds... but not his mass support....
Apo is to willing to sacrific his Peshmerga for his own hide...
But to give PKK its due... it did give NATOs second largest army the run around for 15 years....

exactly my sentiments, Nistiman. i think that if the leadership is praised or criticized depending on its actions, it will encourage them to do what is right and discourage them to do what is wrong.
