Who are the Kurds?
The 20 million Kurds have lived for over 2500 years in Kurdistan, a mainly mountainous region west of Iran, which is now controlled mainly by Iraq and Turkey. Kurds are related to Iranians The climate is hard. Snow makes many villages inaccessible in the winter and the heat is stifling in the valleys and plains in the summer.
today they are more lol so diri keep cool hahaha
Kurdish history
Kurds were defeated by Alexander the Great, and subsequently Kurds were ruled by the Greeks, then Romans, then Byzantines, and then Turkish Ottomans. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed after the First World War, Kurdistan was divided between Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Russia.
Kurds today
Kurds are a fairly warlike people. Blood feuds and tribal rivalry have hindered the development of an independent Kurdistan. After the Iraq-Kuwait war in 1991, the no-fly zone in northern Iraq gave Kurds the chance for some self-government, and slowly they have been learning to work together.
true ture they needed a loooooooooooooong to use their brain for working together instead fighting eachother which at least lost the chance to have since long time a kurdish land.
In Russia the Kurds enjoy far more freedom. Kurdish books are published and Kurdish radio programmes can be received. There is greater religious freedom here than in most parts of the Middle East.
In Western Europe there are about half a million Kurds, four-fifths of whom live in Germany. They came as guest-workers or as refugees, for economic, political or religious reasons. Surely this move to the West is part of God's plan for their salvation!
hmm right there are alot kurds here hehe mostly running a Donerkebab Restaurant
Kurdish religions
The majority of Kurds are Sunni Muslims. However, there is also a large Shiite community in Iran and Iraq.
Many Kurds in Turkey are Alevi (a Shiite sect). The Alevis think more highly of the Prophet Jesus than do other Muslims. Biblical concepts such as loving your neighbour and freedom rather than legalism are part of Alevi beliefs. Alevis read the New Testament.
thats very interesting
About 100,000 Kurds are Yezidis. Their faith is a mixture of religions and they are also known as Devil worshippers.
arent there like 1 000 000 yezedis lol
A small number of Kurds are Christians belonging to the ancient orthodox churches.
