Protestors killed in Southern Kurdistan over water

PostAuthor: heval » Fri Sep 09, 2005 5:24 am

Anybody talk about this yet?

People in Kalar were protesting for the lack of food and water, and their demonstration was received with bullets... If protests turn into riots, then they should arrest the people. There is no excuse for killing them...

It says one person died here, but KurdTV reported two, I believe.

This is just shameful. The corruption in the Kurdistan Regional Government needs to end.

London (TheKurdistani.com) -

In the Kurdish town of Kalar, one protester was killed and 16 wounded in riots over a failure to supply electricity and water, Omar Aziz, a doctor at Kalar's general hospital told Rutgers news agency.

Reuters reported that several buildings were set on fire including a children's hospital, a radio station, the fire department and an education ministry building. Seventy protesters were detained.

The Suleimani-based Radio Nawa reported earlier on 7th of September that the Asaysh security forces in Kalar [which are part of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)’s forces] have fired on protesters. Radio Nawa’s reporter in Kalar said that “when the crowd approached the governor’s office, the [Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)] security forces fired on the crowds. A few people got injured and after that, the protestors attacked the governor’s office.Radio Nawa also reported that PUK's Asaysh forces have detained several journalists who were reporting on the protest.

Meanwhile PUK's satellite channel station reported that 31 people have been injured in the incident.

PUK’s Asaysh forces have fired on peaceful protests in the past. In August 2005, PUK forces fired on a peaceful protest held in Suleimani to support the Kurdish uprising in Eastern [Iranian] Kurdistan. In July, the Asaysh security forces of the Suleimani governor fired on a crowd of taxi drivers who were protesting against a decision to ban taxi cars which had non-Suleimani plate number.

if this news be true , it is really shamefull...

but you know what when I was in slemani , I asked them if the "The Kurdistani"'s news about PUK's shoting ppl for their protest (to support east kurdistan) ...and but they said it is lie ! and PUK never shoted ppl...

but I told them The Kurdisani had recived info from ASO newspaper...

they told me "WE are in the City , and if that had happened we knew it..."

(I asked this qusestion from 3-4 ppl , hotel owner, Taxi Driver...) and they all said they dont confrim that news.

it seems Aso or The Kurdistani sometimes make the news bigger than it is...I dont think one ppl been killed by PUK , may be injuired or arrested...but it is a bit hard to belive kurds kill kurds over Electricity or Water problems.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

Just because Kurdistan TV is PDK doesn't mean they're going to lie about PUK... and besides, they showed footage of Kalar on Kurd TV and this was definitely going on. Double check your resources...

No problem. But let's discuss the KRG corruption rather than how accurate this report is.

Not so sure what you mean by "dodge as hell". However, I don't think any party should give rights to their military and officers to open fire on protestors. (You don't even see this open fire on Palestinians who throw rocks at Israelis but it's happening in Kurdistan.) The problem is that none of these officers will be put on trial because of a lack of true judicial law and their unwillingness to try officers of the parties.

That is the problem until the two administrations are really united no action against ANY official can be made... military or even civilian....

They never shoot AT people... the fired some bullets in the air to intimidate the demonstrators.

And please people do not need to lie about the event, PUK asyashi DID fire bullets (in the air), I got this confirmed by my dad who saw the whole incident as he was walking by.

Well.., so much for "modern slemani"... LoL
