All the ones in the parantesis - "(...)" are wrong... Those are typical mistakes done by Soranî speakers... In Kurdish you HAVE to have EVERY sound of the word - ALL vocals...

But your list looks okey - apart from:

And "Kel" means "Castle/Fortress" - so that only applies to the castle/fortress - not the city name... So the right names are: Xoy and Makû...

Nobody uses "Sablax" anymore - but it is the correct name... Pîranshar - is also known as Xanê, that is right...

I don't know where Solduz (do you mean Solmaz?) and Serwabad are...

It is also significant to spell the names correctly, Hewlêr and not Hawler.. as well as Wan (“one”) and not Van (like a mini-Van --> turks cannot pronounce the “w”), Kerkûk, Xaneqin and so on.

Hakkari is actually a region and the name originates from a tribe.


Also, it is very offensive when people/authors/websites whatever refers to “Iraqi-Kurdistan” etc
It is called
Bakur / northern Kurdistan / or turkish occupied Kurdistan
Bashur / southern Kurdistan / or Iraqi occupied Kurdistan
Rojava / western Kurdistan / or Syrian occupied Kurdistan
Rojhelat / eastern Kurdistan / Iranian occupied Kurdistan

Vladimir, I was trying to insinuate the fact that a “discussion” took place in Turkish.
The topic was to create a consciousness about Kurdish names of places, right? But then a Turkish dude pop up and suddenly some folks just ride along in the conversation carried on in another language. That is sending mixed messages.

Above my native tongue I manage English so there is no need for me to speak the language of oppressors. And in case they want to communicate with me, I suggest they take a class or two in Kurdish. When it comes down to it, it is all about inferiority complex. I understand the system of where Kurdish youth is stolen of their mother tongue in Bakur, Rojhelat and Rojava, but I don’t get this mentality of speaking the oppressor’s language when you have a free mind. As said, the “slave mentality” is very common amongst us.

And before some of you see red, yes some Zaza-speakers have a hard time understanding a SouthKurmanji-speaker to set an example, but it does not justify the use of Arabic nor Turkish. A fluent Zaza-speaker on the other hand manages well when carrying on a conversation with someone from let’s say Mexmûr. Nilufer Akbal is a great example of that. I just wish we had more of her kind, people trying to integrate into their own dialects instead of this constant use of Turkish, Persian whatever when things get rough…

Where ? it could happen here rarely, as sometimes I write French to Tom for private jokes but there most of this forum is in ENglish and Kurdish.

And in Kurdistana Rojavayê and Rojhilatê, ppl speak Kurdish, the problem is only in Bakur.

Actually it differs region from region. There are villages in Bakur were whole families only know of Kurdish. As for Rojhelat you can visit a town and be amazed by how assimilated they have become in utter silence.
