Thanks kak Abdur. Should Azady.nl use the Kurdish name instead?
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Yes Vladi that would be nice, that way the azady readers will learn and hopefully use the kurdish name among themselves. Diri said it right it's Mamekî.

vladimir, if you have time once to visit the Kurdish institute I will see you a map of Kurdistan with all the Kurdish names (many Kurdish scholars have participated to his creation, it is a good reference).

Oh?

Will you post a list of the Kurdish names pluss the artificial names on the side? I mean - if you have a MAP - why don't you just post that MAP! :D

And Roj Bash Kurdistan can put it on a SPECIAL page meant JUST for reference! :D

Great idea, huh? 8)

Everybody would use Roj Bash Kurdistan as reference for the Kurdish names of Kurdistan! :P

Don't know. Just heard that this morning there was a hot "discuss" between parties

This afternoon the Syrian and Kurdish lawyers were good. I liked the intervention of Refaat Semo, and Marwan Othman especially, and some Arab Syrians have made good speeches too. Hebûn wants to gather all their interventions and publish them as a book. I hope they will achieve it.

NOW I AM EXHAUSTED ! hearing conferences is a hard job !

Diri : the problem to scannerize is that this map is very big. I will try to do it in several parts. Not tomorrow coz we have a publisher festival in Paris and Kurds have a stand, but next week.

Isn't Shemzînan (Semdinli) also called Semzan?

Nope...

Shemzînan referes to a mountain range, which are South-East of where I am from - Sêro(on Iranian side)/Basan(on Turkish side)...

I have never heard the name Semzan used for them!?! As a local - I advice you to use Shemzînan... That is what they call it themselves too - as do all others in Colemêrg... :)

They're both turkish names, the population of that city hates the word Tunceli (iron fist) because it was named that way right after Ataturk massacred thousands of civilians there, so the people use Dersim instead. The original kurdish name of that city is Mamikiye though.

Yes... I thoughts so too - I have a map of that... Actually it says Mamekî:

That's a Turkish map right?

According to a girl from Dersim.. Sim (Kurdish) means silver.. and der means door.

The legends are in French, then it is a French map ?

Concerning the history and the ancient name of Dersim I translate in English a text of a Dersimi photographer : he confirms that Dersim means : "Silver door". But like Diyarbakir, it was the name of all the area.

Both of you are right...

The map is probably French...

And Dersîm means "Doorsilver" - Silver Door...

But it must be said - "sîm" also means "wire" and also "glittter"... Which is where "silver" comes from, un-colored - glitter is always silver...
