Suleimani (TheKurdistani.com) by Azad Hewrami – Hundreds of people in the city of Suleimani headed by the Kurdistan Minister of Religious Issues, Dr. Marouf Gaznayi protested against a book issued by a Kurdish author in which he criticised the religion of Islam.
The protestors were demanding the arrest and sentence of Mariwan Halabjayi, the author of “Sex, Women and Sharia in the history of Islam”, a book which Islamic scholars in Kurdistan claim that it “attacks” the religion of Islam and Prophet Mohammad.
The protestors gathered in front of the Council of Ministers of the Suleimani-based Kurdistan Regional Government.
Dr. Gaznai told the protesotors that according to the Iraqi law, there is an article in which it states that “defamation” or “criticising” religion and religious figures is a crime and its punishment is severe. “We will give those who attack our prophets a sentence so that they can be a lesson for everyone”, the Kurdistani Minister told the angry Islamicist protestors in Suleimani.
The protestors also denounced the caricatures of Prophet Mohammad published in several European newspapers.
Shame on Mariwan Halabjayi Shame on him!
