Top Turkish general tells Kurds "we love you"

PostAuthor: Vladimir » Mon Apr 10, 2006 3:30 pm

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, April 10 (Reuters) - Turkey's top soldier made a rare visit to the country's troubled, mainly Kurdish southeast on Monday and said the army was with its people and wanted to help them.

"We love all the people of this region. We are the armed forces of the whole nation. We are serving the whole nation," said General Hilmi Ozkok, head of the military General Staff, in televised comments in Diyarbakir, main city of the southeast.

Ozkok said the protesters did not represent the real attitudes of people in the region. He also accused the protesters of deliberately using children during the clashes to gain sympathy and embarrass the security forces.

"The Turkish Armed Forces are doing their job," he added.

Turkey's powerful military feels frustrated that recent EU-linked reforms aimed at curbing its influence have curtailed its ability to hit back hard against the PKK, Turkish media say.

The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

I am fimiliar with such Propaganda Actions , it is very normal in Iran, after every riots, the officials come to the region , and say we love kurds ...

the diffrence of Iran and Turkey is , in Iran they use Kurd and Kurdistan word, I remebmer the former president of iran khatami , even said "Biji Kurdistan" to ppl.

but in turkey they can not even make a good propagenda because they are too racist to use kurd or kurdistan word.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

What a joke. It is the same when Saddam Hussein told Iraq that he loved Kurds while he was fully dressed in Kurdish clothing. Shortly after, he continued genociding.

oh is that really true ? I didnt know he wore kurdish cloth ... anybody has photo of him ?
I have seen a photo of saddam with a kurdish kid in kurdish cloth.
by the way , saddam and iran have made better Propagendas they admited there is something called Kurd.
Turks saying "we love our nation" is not such attractive propagenda ... (did they expect to say we hate our nation ?)
