The Syrian war is already the biggest conflict of the 21. century: The 3 year old war has a death toll of 150,000 by 1 April, 2014. According to UNCHR, the number of registered refugees fleeing Syrian war has reached 2.7 million. Torn by war, Syrian people sought refuge in neighbouring countries, like Turkey. The number of asylum seekers registered in Turkey is now 714,552. However, many are still not registered: UN estimates that the total number exceeds 1 million. And only some 220,000 are placed in refugee camps. Syrian refugees in Turkey have neither an identity cards nor rights. According to Turkish laws they have a “guest” status. Even if it sounds nice, most of the “Syrian guests” have huge trouble in finding jobs, sheltering, reaching education and cultural differences. Thousands of Syrian families who sought refuge in the Turkish town Hatay, live outside camps, in bordering villages and rent shacks or barns. This photo was taken in Reyhanli, Hatay.
