When Turkey has the death penalty Ocalan will be hanged

PostAuthor: Anthea » Thu Jul 28, 2016 11:21 am

Are people worried that if Erdogan reinstates death penalty Ocalan will be first to die?

I believe that many people are extremely worried because, since the State of Emergency has been declared in Turkey, there has been a call for the death penalty to be reinstated

When (I believe it is when and not if) the death penalty is reinstated, the majority of Turks will demand the execution of Ocalan

Erdogan, who is now struggling to strengthen his control over the population, will have to give his supporters what they want

Including the execution of Ocalan

According to Firat News there have been a great many more activities taking place in support of Ocalan

After very little having been done to support Ocalan in recent years, this recent batch of activities can only be attributed to fear of his execution:

12:00 (today)
Kurdish Joint Diplomacy Committee appeals to EU officials on Öcalan

10:00
Political prisoners in Sincan on hunger strike against İmralı isolation

26/07
Öcalan's family and lawyers re-apply for access to İmralı

24/07
Kurds in Europe stand up for Öcalan

24/07
Kurdish youths rally for Öcalan in Cannes

23/07
Kurds in Europe mobilize and demand freedom for Öcalan

22/07
Communication with İmralı banned throughout the State of Emergency

22/07
British GMB condemns the Turkey coup and demands freedom for Öcalan

22/07
Kurds in Germany take to the streets for Öcalan

22/07
PKK: Democracy bloc must be formed in Turkey immediately

22/07
Mass letter campaign to the CPT and Amnesty International for Öcalan

21/07
Öcalan's lawyers apply for injunction from the Constitutional Court

Prior to the threat of execution, there would not have been so many such activities taking place annually and certainly not in the space of a week

The desperate bid to win support continues with the HDP showing it's support of Ocalan yet again - they still have not learnt that this is an unwise move

Kurds deserve a political party that will lead them to independence

They do NOT want Turkish loving

b]Sixth day of the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in Amed[/b]

The isolation on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who hasn’t been contacted since April 5, 2015, continues under harsh conditions with the attempted coup.

The vigil demonstration launched in Amed with the demand to end the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and led by HDP, DBP and KJA continues on the sixth day. HDP Amed MP Feleknas Uca, DBP and HDP provincial branches, Co-mayors, NGOs, KJA members and large groups of civilians attend the vigil held in Koşuyolu Park. The people are not backing down in a display of will despite the police and water cannons surrounding the Park from all sides.

The vigil demonstration has DBP flags and banners that read “End Imralı Isolation” and “No civilian coup, no military coup, yes to radical democracy” and Kurdish songs and dengbejs are being played. The young people dance halay for hours and participants frequently chant “Bijî Serok Apo”, “Be Serok Jiyan Nabe” and “PKK is the people, the people are here”.

Demonstrators called for participation in the rally on Sunday that will also be attended by HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş.

Öcalan denied access to newspapers

With the information that has come to light after the coup attempt and the declared state of emergency, the concerns over the wellbeing and safety of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan are rising. Following the coup attempt, the appeals of his family to visit Öcalan were first refused along with the answer that they “will be informed when the right conditions are met”. Now after the state of emergency has been declared, all appeals have been refused on the grounds that the Bursa 1st Judge of Execution’s decree to ban all visitation and communication rights.

It has also come to light that the newspapers sent to İmralı weren’t accepted by the prison administration and were sent back. According to information from Asrın Law Office, the Özgür Gündem newspapers sent to the island after the coup attempt weren’t delivered to Öcalan and were sent back along with the note “Not accepted by the institution”.

Meanwhile, the families and lawyers have appealed to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office once more to meet with Öcalan and three other convicts held in İmralı prison.

Turkey's Erdogan Backs Return Of Execution

The Turkish President has told a rally of a million supporters he would approve the return of the death penalty.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the huge crowd that had gathered to hear him speak after a failed coup that if Parliament votes to bring back capital punishment, he would back it.

The move could scupper proposals for Turkey to join the EU which has collectively agreed to call for the universal abolition of the death penalty.

Council of Europe guidelines state that countries that join the EU are expected to commit themselves to moratoria and to ratify the 6th Protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) committing them to permanent abolition.

The rally Mr Erdogan was speaking at in Istanbul was designed to draw a line under the 15 July coup attempt that has since resulted in widespread arrests and a purge of swathes of Turkey's civil service.

In a speech to the Democracy and Martyrs' Rally, which was broadcast live on public screens across the country, the President said: "If the nation makes such a decision (in support of death penalty), I believe political parties will abide by this decision.

"It is the Turkish parliament that will decide on this (death penalty) given the sovereignty rests with the nation... I declare it in advance, I will approve the decision made by the parliament."

He went on to blame the network of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen for the coup attempt and said it must be destroyed within the framework of the law.

He went on to accuse Germany of being undemocratic by refusing to allow expat Turks living there to watch him speak over a video link.

He said: "Where is democracy? Let them nourish the terrorists, it will come back to hit them."

German authorities prevented Erdogan from addressing a rally in Cologne last Sunday over a video link, prompting Ankara to summon Germany's charge d'affaires.

The rally follows concern in some European countries that the President's heavy-handed response to the coup has breached human rights and is itself stifling democracy.

Earlier, the Turkish head of the armed forces Hulusi Akar told the rally that "traitors" behind the attempted coup would be punished in the harshest way and thanked civilians for their role in putting it down.

The President's rally was supported by the leader of the main opposition party Kemal Kilicdaroglu who told the audience, made up mostly of supporters of the leading AK Party, that the coup had opened a "new door of compromise".

Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, meanwhile, before Mr Erdogan spoke, threatened veto ongoing negotiations with Turkey over its attempts to join the European Union because the country has not made sufficient progress towards meeting the conditions of entry.

A deterioration in relations has the potential to put at risk the bloc's dependence on Ankara to prevent migrants heading further west.

Demonstrations for Öcalan's freedom continue in Europe

Desperate Ocalan supporters are continuing their protests across Europe - demanding the release of Ocalan before the reintroduction of the death penalty

No longer an Ocalan supporter myself - since he turned traitor to all those who followed him in his promise of a free Kurdistan and died frighting for that Independence (some were friends of mine) only to have Ocalan turn against them and tried to make Kurds lap-dogs of the barbaric Turks - I do think he should be allowed to have visitors

For years the Kurds have done very little towards gaining his freedom - they have not bothered to support Hasankeyf and that is far more important than Ocalan :((

Kurdish youths continue taking to the streets across Europe to protest the aggravated isolation and demand the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

HAMBURG

Members of the Kurdish youth's umbrella organisation Ciwanên Azad staged civil disobedience demonstration at the central train station in the German city of Hamburg. Chanting slogans for the freedom of Öcalan, youths also distributed leaflets informing the public about the İmralı isolation.

LONDON

Kurdish youths living in London, England also joined a demonstration to protest the aggravated isolation of the Kurdish leader. The demo organised by Ciwanên Azad was held at the historical train station King's Cross with protestors chanting slogans and raising the demand for freedom for Öcalan.

HANNOVER

Ciwanên Azad youths in the German city of Hannover gathered in the airport to protest the isolation of Öcalan from whom no news has been received since April 5. Singing the Kurdish anthem Çerxa Şoreşe, demonstrators called on all patriotic and revolutionary Kurdish youths to organise demos day and night until Öcalan is freed.

LIEGE

Ciwanên Azad members in the Belgium city of Liège protested and condemed the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan at the Guillemins train station. Carrying Öcalan banners and flags representing the Kurdish movement, demonstrators called upon all Kurdish youths to join protests for Öcalan. Youths also distributed leaflets informing about the conditions Öcalan is subject to in isolation.

Turkish MP says death penalty will be imposed on Ocalan if approved

A member of the Turkish Parliament, Ali Ozkaya, announced on Monday (August 8) the death penalty will be imposed on the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) if the assembly backs a reinstatement of capital punishment in the country.

“If capital punishment is approved for coup plotters, the penalty must also be imposed on [Abdullah] Ocalan,” Ozkaya said of the PKK leader.

Ocalan was sentenced to death by a Turkish court in 1999, but his sentence was later commuted to life in prison after Turkey abolished the death penalty as part of the EU reform process.

Erdogan said he would approve the restoration of the death penalty if parliament voted for it – a move which would likely sink any hopes of European Union membership. Shrugging off EU concerns, he said much of the rest of the world had capital punishment.

Ozkaya added, “If it is proven that Ocalan is behind the killing of government forces, the death penalty will be imposed on him as well.”

Ocalan is serving a life sentence in an island prison and has not had contact with family, lawyers or politicians since April 2015.

Goran MP calls on Kurds to put pressure on Turkey for Öcalan's freedom
(Goran the well known band wagon jumpers who are only interested in taking power from others)

South Kurdistan's Goran (Change) Movement MP Adil Aziz called upon all Kurds to put pressure on the Turkish state for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Aziz stressed that the resolution of the Kurdish question will not be possible unless Öcalan is freed, and that the isolation imposed on Öcalan revealed, once again, the fascist face of the Turkish state.

'I CONDEMN VEHEMENTLY THE ISOLATION OF ÖCALAN'

Goran MP Aziz said he condemned vehemently the isolation of the Kurdish leader which he said Turkey imposed because it feared the ideas of Öcalan.

"It is clear that Turkey resorts to isolation because it fears the Kurdish movement and Öcalan's influence on the Kurdish politics. What Öcalan is subject to is a totally fascist practice and as a matter of fact, this shows clearly the Turkish state's fear of Öcalan's power of thinking."

'RESOLUTION POSSIBLE WITH ÖCALAN'S FREEDOM'

Aziz underlined that the Kurdish question will face a growing deadlock unless Öcalan is freed, and that the resolution of the Kurdish question is entirely bound to Öcalan's freedom. "If the Turkish state wants a resolution to the Kurdish question, it should abandon these practices and free Öcalan", he said.

'ALL KURDISH POLITICAL CIRCLES SHOULD PUT PRESSURE ON THE TURKISH STATE'

Aziz warned that the Turkish state, however, won't give an end to its policies against Öcalan of its own free will, and called upon all Kurdish political circles to put pressure on the Turkish state for the freedom of the Kurdish leader.

Aziz remarked that every means must be used and an intense effort must be made to highlight the most rightful demand for Öcalan's freedom from the Turkish state.

Vigil for Öcalan's freedom in Athens in its second day

The vigil started in Athens against Öcalan's isolation and for his freedom continues in its second day.

Kurds living in Athens, capital city of Greece, started three-day long events upon the call of People's Assembly of Greece. As part of the events that will end with a mass rally tomorrow, a vigil was launched yesterday for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Women have today taken over the vigil which is held at the central Sindagma Square across the Parliament.

A statement made by the People's Assembly of Greece said that; “This vigil is an outcome of the Kurdish women's devotion to their Leader. Tayyip Erdoğan should know that Kurdish women will be on vigil every day as the freedom of our Leader is also our freedom."

The Kurdish Popular Assembly in Greece also released a statement calling upon all Kurds to join the rally to be held in front of the Greek Parliament at 18:00 Friday evening.
