laws in Turkey

PostAuthor: UE_kurdophile » Sun Nov 05, 2006 10:56 am

Nowadays in Turkey what is alllowed/not allowed regarding the use of kurdish languages ? i mean : is it now possible publishing books in kurmangi/having at home books /having at home kurdish music/ talking in kurdish on Tv...?

When have laws been changed?

I heard some time ago about the possibility of opening schools in kurdish , do they exist now?

This is how Kurdish must be presented on TV:

1) Only 45 minutes per day
2) Only 5 hours per week
3) The programs must be cultural
4) Everything must be subtitled
5) Cartoons are illegal in Kurdish
6) Political discussions and topics are illegal in Kurdish
7) The programs must first be clearified by a Turkish state councile before they can air their programs

By the way: Turkey is a democracy... And the only Muslim democracy... (It's a big fat joke if you ask me!)

No I saw Kurdish magazine since 1999, but it existed before. Perhaps since 1991.

can u tell us how that newspaper is published in turkey ?
can they really talk about what they want ?
let say they print a photo of some peopel who have kurdistan flag... is that allowed ? do they Freely talk about the opinion of kurdish peopel ?

thanks please let us know more ....l

They recently banned the PKK newspaper Ozgur Gundem for 15 days only lol...

7. - Turkish Daily News - "Limited Kurdish broadcasts approved":

Three channels to start limited broadcasts.

ANKARA / 9 March 2006

The Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTÜK) has approved broadcasts in Kurdish for two television channels in Diyarbakir -- Gün TV and Söz TV -- and a radio station in Sanliurfa, Medya FM, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The channels will only be able to start their broadcasts after signing a protocol.

Turkey, working toward European Union membership, changed its laws in 2002 to allow limited broadcasts in Kurdish and other minority languages, and state television has been airing programs in two Kurdish dialects for a half-hour each week.

As part of EU-oriented reforms, Parliament in 2002 also granted limited rights for Kurdish to be taught at private language institutions. Although Kurds at first welcomed the schools as a first step toward greater rights, these schools have since closed down due to dwindling interest and Kurdish demands for the language to be part of the regular state school curriculum.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.
