For only 30 years ago... it was FASHION to be fat in Kurdistan - Kurdish women always wore several layers of clothes (Kiras û Fîstan) to look a bit fatter... They did this because it was believed that the "bigger" women were more fertile...


And here is a picture that witnesses this wierd phenomenon...

Wherever there is famine or hunger from having no money to eat, then fat becomes fashionable. When food is not a problem, then usually, thin is fashionable. Problem is when you have too much fattening foods, thin may be fashionable, but everyone gets fat anyway.

actually, Diri, there is truth in this folk wisdom. if a woman's body fat falls below a certain percentage, she will not produce the hormones necessary to regulate fertility and will not be able to conceive.

of course, obesity carries with it more pressing health problems, but a certain amount of fat is absolutely necessary for becoming pregnant.

Hahaaha - Sorgul - it is right... Women still have that mentality - what I mean was that the new generation of today is going the other way... YOU might not think that fatness is beautifull - but my mother and probably YOUR mother thinks it is

This should prove our LOOOOONG and OLD heritage and the great wisdom Kurds have had - especially Kurdish women - you would NEVER believe the things my mother tells me about "what we did in the old days to make things work"...

Yes it is true, that women have to have *some* fat, but only to a point.

If you go to any Greek, Jewish, Turkish, Arab, Lebanese ect... show or restaurant, you will see this is true; men like a little fat. In Yiddish it's called "zoftig".

Yes, mother's like this for their sons because skinny litttle girls are too frail, get sick easy, and might die, leaving your mother with the baby. This is not something mother was looking forward to doing after she got you down the aisle
