He said to a turkish newspaper that it was a way to solve the conflict. Turkey should proclam a general amnisty to allow the fighters to leave the mountains and come back to their villages...

he said also

"If we try to fight the PKK too much they will start to cooperate with terrorist groups like Al Quaïda, Ansar Al Islam and or Zarqaoui and they will bring more problems"

Well I don't know for the second one, also I'm sure Apo would be discover he is in fact a reincarnation of Mahomet and declare a holy war.

But for the first one

I think in a perfect world an amnisty would be the best thing. A lot of PKK fighters left after 1999 and Öcalan treachery. I met some of them in Iraq, now part of the PDK or PUK forces. But the problem is that if a fighter want to leave the guerilla and come back to civil life, he is executed as a traitor. So even if turkey decides an amnesty, only a few fighters will try to leave, and they will be in danger...

Tom.. I wish you could a discussion with a Turk I have in another forum..

Would be interesting..

Anyway.. it would be good if those PKK'ers join the Peshmerga army. They could guard the border then. I doubt the PKK is powerfull enough to combat against KDP/PUK again..
