The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

He want his Country to join EU so he is acting like he has to do.
Well if he says that its only his opinion i am sure there are alot Turks who dont accept someone calling himself Kurd,Assyrian or what ever.

Erdogan riposts to offensive of bellicist nationalists, especially after the inidents of Hakkari.
He knows that UE won't accept any compromise about minorities' rights, for UE is based on it, even against Jacobinist states like France !
And as a "muslim" politician, he wants to weaken the kemalist dogma too, oppsing to laicity a "muslim" tradition and identity.

I don't see any real value in his words, but he was responded to by the real heads of power in Turkey, their military... 
Following Turkish PM's remarks on the Shamdinan incident in which he said that "we will probe the incidents wherever their roots lie," the Turkish military junta have threatened Erdogan last Friday not repeat such statements. Casting aside any suggestion that the Turkish military thugs had any involvement in these incidents, the military said the incident was perhaps carried out by the PKK members. Also, the Turkish military is accusing leaders in Southern Kurdistan of actively distracting the Turkish military's attention away from Southern Kurdistan by implying that the problem is solely within Turkey.
