tomjez wrote:Ok that's really horrible now...maybe worse than human right reports, medical NGO's reports. I really did not now it was that bad. But the fact that 1.2 millions armenians out of 3.5 millions in 1990 left the country should have given me a hint.

Two reports here from UNICEF

http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/armenia_495.html

Malaria has re-emerged in Armenia for the first time in 30 years, with 2000 cases reported in 1999 (some even on the outskirts of the capital city of Yerevan).

And MSF

http://www.msf.org/msfinternational/countries/europe/armenia/index.cfm

Armenia and Georgia had the poorest access to health care in a comparative assessment of eight former Soviet republics (Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Belarus)

But armenian diaspora' priority it recognition of the genocide. 30 % of armenians live with less than 1 $ a day, but in immigration they are crying about mount ararat and lake of van.

I think that says a lot about deconnection of diasporas and situation in countries of origin.

I feel really sorry for Armenia...maybe they should consider opening border with turkey and start thinking about developing their country...I'm really depressed.

Do you know why they left the country? Do you know how it was like to live with electricity and water for just 1 hour a day in a freezeng cold, with dead economy after the collapse of Soviet Union?

Armenia should reconsider opening the border with Turkey? Are you nuts? It's not Armenian who closed the borsers. It's Turkey and Azerbaijan. And in order for Turkey to open the border with Armenia, they have some demands for us. Such as gove back Katabakh to Azeris, drop the Armenian Genocide claims, so on and so on. They can all my you know what.

Is it for no right turn? it's weird anyway

Well if Armenian governement is waiting for the recognition of genocide to start developing a country which will soon be empty...

I don't know what to think, it's a pity for armenia anyway.

BTW Armenia is the most supported state by the USA (by population), second after Israel. I really wonder where the money goes though.

After the collapse of Soviet Union, plus the earthquacke, plus the war, plus the corrupt Levon Ter-Petrosian government, Armenia was in a very very poor situation. Considering that, 1.5 billion dollars that U.S assisted to Armenian during 10 years is not that much, although it helped out a lot.
Secondly the current government is not supported by the people. I would was around 80% of Armenians don't favor Kocharian and his administration.

Are you suggesting that Armenia has the worst record among the ex soviet nations? Even worse than Azerbaijan? Please show me the facts.

Well I posted before they have the worth health care, worse than Moldava or Kirigizistan. So first of all it is a country that can't prevent it's citizen to die from something worse than a cold.

Then 30 % of population lives with less than 1 $ a day

then if you want facts click on the link of MSF and UNICEF...they're here for that.

And Azerbaijan has petrol.....and is open on the rest of the world...and hasn't lost a third of it's population in 10 years! I'm sorry...and don't make me supporter of azerbaijan or turkey again, it's just likely that a country with oleoducs and petrol is richer than its unlucky neighbor.

Give me a lagitimate international link where all the former ex soviet countries compare with each other. Considering Armenia having such "friendly" neighbors like Turkey and Azerbaijan that keeps Armenia's borders closed of course Armenia would have worse record than the rest of countries.

I'm happy to say that things are slowly getting back to normal
