I don't think it was not a "genocide" in Algeria, only big crimes of war, for French army did not want to ethnically cleaned Algeria, only crushed badly muslim population. But if an international tribunal made investigations and state that it was a genocide why not ? One more or less... We have recognized that slavery was a crime against humanity. We have recognized that French government of Vichy was involved with nazi's deportation... etc..
And Tom says that France has culturally genocized his own people, the Brittons. Then, I suppose we have a lot of genocides in our back.
In fact, it would change nothing. I am more interested on current genocide. For example, France should recognize that it was involved in Rwanda's one. And it is French organization which put the case in International Tribunal. But none of these organization has been put in jail, for the moment
