Turkish jets strike PKK targets after deadly militant attack

Turkish warplanes bombed Kurdish insurgent targets overnight after the militants staged what appeared to be their deadliest attack since the collapse of a two-year-old ceasefire in July and claimed to have killed 31 government soldiers.

The military confirmed soldiers had been killed but gave no number. Its operations continued on Monday, with helicopters dropping special forces in a mountainous area near the Iraqi frontier, while drones sought out targets for the warplanes.

The clashes, weeks before polls the ruling AK Party hopes will restore its majority, threaten to sink a peace process President Tayyip Erdogan launched in 2012 in an attempt to end an insurgency that has killed more than 40,000 people.

Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels said they had killed 31 members of the armed forces in an attack on a convoy and clashes on Sunday in the mountainous Daglica area of Hakkari province, near the Iraqi border.

A security source told Reuters 16 soldiers had been killed, which would be the highest military death toll in a single attack for years.

Erdogan said in an interview late on Sunday on the A Haber TV channel that the fight against the PKK would now become more determined. He said 2,000 PKK militants had been killed since the conflict resumed in July.

Question: were those soldiers on Kurdish land?

Answer: 'YES'

Solution: Remove the savage Turkish army of occupation from North Kurdistan

Outcome: No more attacks by Turkish military on innocent Kurdish children

No more retaliatory attacks against the invading Turkish military

END OF FIGHTING :ymhug:

If armed men break into my home and start killing my friends and relations

I am going to shoot them :D

I will NOT allow them to set up camp in my living-room

Nor build a fortress in my back garden

And I will definitely NOT allow them to:

build a dam over my river - burn down my trees - grass - flowers

destroy my birds nests - kill my hedgehogs and other wildlife

Turkey sends ground forces into Iraq after militant attacks

Turkish ground forces have crossed into Iraq in pursuit of Kurdish militants for the first time since a ceasefire two years ago.

Government officials said the incursion was a "short-term" measure to hunt down PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) rebels.

Turkish warplanes also launched a wave of air strikes on PKK bases in northern Iraq on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, at least 14 Turkish police officers died in a bomb attack blamed on Kurdish militants on Tuesday.

The attack in eastern Igdir province came a day after suspected PKK bombs killed at least 16 Turkish soldiers in south-eastern Hakkari region.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the PKK had suffered "serious damage" inside and outside of Turkey and was in a state of "panic".

Anthea: HA HA HA no way the PKK would panic they are far too well organised ;)
