Non-oil investment in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq totaled more than $12 billion over the last three years, according to the Board of Investors of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

While the rest of Iraq struggled for stability, the Kurdistan Region saw an influx in development and economic growth. "We want to inform the companies that we have a situation quite different from that in other parts of Iraq," Kamran Mufti, Director-General Council said.

The primary source of investment in the Kurdistan Region was the local housing sector, which saw an increase of $4.7 billion. The banking sector followed at $2.29 billion.

Of foreign investment in the Region, Kuwait and Lebanon contributed the most, with approximately $3.1 billion, representing a quarter of total investment during the period. Total investments from within Iraq totaled $8.59 billion.

Officials in the Kurdish Region of Iraq do not place a priority on where investments originate. "We want to inform investors that we need them," said Mufti. "There is no difference if they are local or foreign." Overall, about 70 percent of foreign investment in the Kurdistan Region comes from neighboring Turkey.

The Kurdistan Region, which is the safest and most stable part of Iraq, issued 241 investment licenses from 2006 to present, with Erbil cited as the most sought after investment location. Currently, a $6 billion deal with the United Arab Emirates is pending.

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq has a burgeoning economy built upon progressive economic policies and growing government transparency. Investment opportunities span every sector, including oil and gas, electricity, energy, agricultural and the service industries. The government remains committed to lowering barriers of entry for new business.

Overall, about 70 percent of foreign investment in the Kurdistan Region comes from neighboring Turkey.

That tells a lot! We, Turks, are building that country as we speak..You better get on well with us Kurdos! :)

On a serious note, some people in Turkey support the idea of an independent Kurdish sate in Northern Iraq. They think, this will allow Turkey to deport its Kurdish population to that satellite-state and ultimately solve its kurdish problem. I don't think this is feasible anymore. We could have done that in 1915-1920s, but not in 2010. It's too late now.. :(

That's why I support the idea of total separation of Kurds-Turks; Only Turks to live in Turkey and Only Kurds to live in Kurdistan! We need a population exchange, like the greek-Turkish one of 1923.

You can not deport 30 million people  , I mean there is 6000 PKK peshmargas in Southren Kurdistan (iraqi Kurdistan ) and look at all the problem they are creating for Turkey . I can understand your frusteration with the kurdish population in Istanbul and othere turkish cities , but you have to remember that it is the result of Turkish displacement and turkification policy in the 80s when they razer over 3000 Kurdish villages .

well if 70 percent of foreign investment in the Kurdistan Region comes from neighboring Turkey it doesn't mean it comes from turkes . lots of it comes from bakur kurdistan kurds that u call "Turkey".
and I am agree with u . give us our lands back then we will give u a pure turkey . Turkey just for Turks and Kurdistan just for Kurds .thats what I always wish . A PURE KURDISTAN

That is what the Armenians were saying before 1915. How many of them left in Anatolia today?
