'Iraqi VP seeks asylum in Jordan'

According to informed sources in the northeastern city of Sulaymaniyeh in Iraq's Kurdistan region, Hashemi has asked Jordan's King Abdullah II to grant him asylum in the country.

The Jordanian government has taken the matter into consideration, the sources added.

Iraqi officials have accused Vice President Hashemi of involvement in terrorist attacks in the country over the past years, including a November 2011 car bombing in Baghdad that apparently targeted Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

On November 28, 2011, security officials said two people were killed in a car bombing at an Iraqi parliament parking lot inside Baghdad's Green Zone.

Iraqi officials said that the target of the bombing was Parliament Speaker Osama Abdul Aziz al-Nujayfi. However, on December 3, 2011, Maliki revealed that he had been the target of the bombing.

On December 19, 2011, Iraq's Interior Ministry issued an arrest warrant for Hashemi after three of his bodyguards made confessions of taking orders from him to carry out the terrorist attacks. Hashemi later fled to the Kurdistan region.

The Iraqi vice president has called for the referral of his case to the Kurdistan region, but Iraq's judiciary has rejected his request.

Maliki has demanded that President of the Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani hand Hashemi over to the Iraqi judiciary.

If he really is innocent, why is he asking for asylum in Jordan? Even though I know Maliki is the Jackass of Iran, I dont trust Hashimi. He tried to flee to Kurdistan even before Maliki announced warrant on him. And now he tries to flee from Kurdistan before their was a process? I start to believe that he might indeed have something to do with the terrorist attacks.

Hand him over and stop getting involved in Arab politics! I want to bang their heads together (Talabani and Barzani)! This will not benefit Kurdish people at all just bring us more trouble and I don't see why this man is worth risking Kurdish political intergrity over.

More important than an opportunity is the issue of legality. There is an arrest warrant out on Hashemi and by protecting him the Kurdish Regional Government are in effect obstructing the law.
