how much do you think will go peshmerga? and wasn`t it an article on roj bash that said kurdistan would produce 500 000 barrels (per day) by the end of this year?
that means 13bilion dollars every year

$3 billion for Peshmerga . oil output is currently 170,000 bpd , and yes it will hit half a million bpd by DEC.

When the UK withdrew the Saxons from service they donated their last 60 to the Basra Police (cheaper than shipping them back to UK for scrap). It seems these were then distributed to a few border posts. There's lots of this sort of "hand me down" junk sloshing about in Iraq, e.g. the 10th division got a 100 MAN trucks from the withdrawing Danish troops etc...

Peshmarga is using AK variants. The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has some AKs and some Serbian M21s. The Iraqi army uses M16 and M4s.

IMHO german is best. I'd go for H&K G36A2s if it were up to me and ditch both the inaccurate AKs and unreliable M16s.

Yeh tye both have their faults. What about LMGs? I would replace the RPDs with M240s, they seem to work for the Americans in Afghanistan.

AK's are underrated. They are more powerfull than M16.
If I had a free choice between M16 and AK weapon, I'd go for the Kalashnikov :P.

AK is more sybmolic for freedom fighting movements. Power doesn't really matter, a bullet is a bullet.

Arm the Peshmarga with G36A2s. Can't go wrong.

Kurdistan is a small country. Its military MUST FOCUS 100% on quality, both in training/doctrine as well as equipment.

an iraqi battalion has been sent to Hawija district in Kirkuk province which is an arab dominant district and they have brought 18 of these heavy artilleries with them along with additional 1400 iraqi soldiers .

Peshemrga brigade commander which takes control of the province except the Hawija town has asked the iraqi armed forces in baghdad to show their purpose behind bringing these forces to the district .

Iraq does not use those artillery weapons. These pictures are from the 1991 gulf war.

At the moment Iraq does not have many live operational artillery anyway, most of the artillery pieces iraq has are for the artillery school for training and some are distributed to divisions for training rotation in anticipation of the future artillery systems which have not been bought yet.

according to the force , the are new russians ones yes not like the ones in the pic and apparently they can go as far as 15-17 kms .

but what is the reason behind this ? i thought iraq could not politically afford a war !

15-17km range indicates that these are D30s. They are training artillery for the Army. Must be rotated for another exercise of tadrib al shamil and nothing to do with going to war with anyone!

some details of what tadreeb al shamil is:

Iraqi army divisions go through 4-5 large scale training cycles annually to maintain combat readiness and prepare for new doctrines and operational techniques. This is a "ROUTINE" training.

What about Peshmerga? I've seen mini BM21s mounted on meduim sized cars, on Al jazeera.
I think light mortars are much more effective, just look at this clip on US marines using it against Taliban:

those weapons are effective against villages and some lightly armed insurgents mostly. Also against unassisted infantry (e.g. Iranian infantry during the war with Iraq).
