Quite a few Iraqi officers are also sent to the UK/US for training again. Even some Special forces go there to qualify. But the real quantifiable change in doctrine is the empowerment of the Non-Commissioned Officers to make decisions and rely on initiative. This was unthinkable in the rigidly controlled old army.

The Kurdish Regional Border Guards are included as part of the overall training scheme, and they participate in the same curriculum with the Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement...

To keep things on the topic of Kurdistan. The Kurdish DBE are receiving the same equipment and training as the Iraqi DBE. The Iraqi DBE received Sea-Scan/ScanEagle UAVs and are in the process of ordering up a couple of helicopter squadrons (UH-60 blackhawks and EC-145s). The Kurdish Regional Border Guards will receive the same items once delivered.

these have to be simple and rugged enough for use by a border guard. they are not strategic ISR assets.

Sheytan, I really doubt Iraq would give us Black hawks or Erocopters!

In the case we do, I hope it will be completely under our control, with our flag on it.

And what is DBE ?

DBE means Department of Border Enforcement.

Kurdistan Border Guards fall under Iraqi jurisdiction, but operate independently in day to day. They have both Iraqi and Kurdish flags on their equipment/uniforms as far as I know. maybe alan or ideas can correct me.

Peshmerga dont have a Air force, that is our biggest problem. Today a state without a Air Foce can not win a war against a state with a modern Air force. And to that Kurds are also a minority. How we will win against a Iraqi army with modern jets and other heavy weappons and with a bigger population?

But withourt independence we dont can buy heavy weappons and jets, but also without Kirkuk we dont can declare independence. Its a dirty situation.

Now we wait 5 years for kirkuk, they promised us a normalisation and a referendum, but we still waiting and waitig. Now what we Kurds should do? Should we risk a war and declare our independence and fight for the disputed areas? Or should we continue to wait, to slove the problems in the politics.

In the one side, the declaration of independence can start a war, but in the other side, it does not look for a political solution.

Council of Ministers to meet in Kirkuk tomorrow

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Mon May 07, 2012 7:31 pm

i knew bringing Iraqi army to Hawija was a sus

A member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council says the Iraqi Council of Ministers is due to meet in Kirkuk on Tuesday, May 8 and will be headed by PM Nouri Maliki.

The Council of Ministers meet in a different city each time, Muhamad Kamal, a member of the KPC said, adding that “The previous meeting was in Basrah, and this time It will be in Kirkuk.”

The meeting is to be held in the KPC hall. Kirkuk Now called some members of the KPC, but to no avail. A source from the Kirkuk Police said all of the security forces are on alert to control the security.

The meeting was to be held last week, but was postponed due to ‘bad weather’.

this is clearly a provocation by maliki to tell KRG "kirkuk is iraqi n will say as so" , we need to do a similar move.

Or we could use it to our advantage and tell countries that are concerned with Iraqs stability that the rising power of the Iraqi army needs to be in equilibrium with the Peshmerga. I believe some countries will listen, especially the gulf Sunni states that are concerned with the rising power of Shia Arabs in Iraq and therefore the region.

No. The Iraqi army is still considered weak by regional standards. No on will support and sympathies with us if we use this as a claim.
