hi crazyhorse. I gave you a like! chill out. the world isn't a big conspiracy! I came to this forum because all the kurds got banned from SSC. Its just a "discussion" forum FFS! :D not a conspiracy to undermine Kurdistan!

I came up with my "master plan" because it seems Peshmarga ISN'T doing a serious enough effort to build up its conventional military. There could be many "political" reasons for that, or maybe in the past they were thinking of "integrating" with the Iraqi army, I don't know... but at least now small efforts have finally been announced by Barzani. so hopefully Peshmarga will build a REAL conventional military capability. Unifying the structures between KDP/PUK is a much needed first step. BRinging in a cadre of conventional oriented military planners to replace the old peshmerga veterans should be the next important step.

PS. Iraqi army helicopters HAVE deployed regularly to Erbil, that's why I was asking! (even in the "top gear special" in Kurdistan you saw an Iraqi Army Aviation Mi-17 in Erbil, just as one example).

no Iraq is not buying AH64s. Iraq's "attack helicopter" fleet will be just EC635, ARH407, Mi17.

Alan might update us about what weapons the peshmarga bought lately. I know that Barzani announced a militarisation programme, but no idea what it entails.

I have not seen these efforts. I dont understand, why the Peshmerga dont buy attack helicopters, tanks or cheap jets, because it is necessary for us. I hope the KRG will make his first step in this direction.

I even dont know who controlls the air over south Kurdistan.

Legally they are not allow to do so , but they are doing it behind close doors . It is very complicated because KRG is not acting neither as a regional government nor as an independent state.

actually Kurdistan (AFAIK) can buy any weapon they want. And Peshmarga DOES buy some weapons (light stuff mostly), and a few light helicopters and aircraft (ikarus C42s, EC120s etc...). Even the, ever intransigent, Iraqis stated officially multiple times that Kurdistan can buy weapons! Any weapons manufacturer can sell weapons to Kurdistan directly as it IS authorised by Iraq.

The air space over southern Kurdistan is part of the Northern Sector Operations Command of the Iraqi Air Force and controlled from Tikrit ATC.

I have a 312 page report on the Kurdish Defence Forces written as a thesis by a US Army War College Student.

Its a good read.
http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA510826

abstract:
This paper examines a segment of this Kurdistan Regional Government that has been heretofore little noted and poorly
understood by the world at large: The large and well-developed security sector. The KRG security sector consists of military
forces (the Peshmerga), investigative and policing entities (the Municipal Police and the Asayish), intelligence services
(Parastin and Dazgay Zanyari), the Judiciary, and the penal system. Related to the KRG security sector are Government of
Iraq forces operating inside the KRG, or consisting of personnel and units formerly part of the Peshmerga.

Iraq as is not accepted as a state by Kurds due to the oppressive policies baghdad have adopted since the fall of the previous regime, so they are going their own ways since the attempts to establish true democracy have failed completely . realistically Iraq is currently 3 mini states each with their own agendas and laws . The only time they go back to the constitution when it serves all the three mini state which is very rare .

The shias are not allowed to consolidate power or court Kurdish Jashes from saddam's (zebari , herki , misori tribs ) to prepare for an attack on Kurds Yet they are doing it . Al maliki himself confessed to having a meeting with them . Keep in mind that these people were active participant in Kurdish Genocide in Halabja and Anfal . The shia death squads that belong to Maliki and Sadr and systematically cleaning up the arab sunnis from baghdad and othere sunnis areas

The sunnis on the othere hand ,,,well you know what is going on .

In conclusion no one is following the law and everyone is fight to achieve their own goals .

Guys, you have to think that KRG don't want to show their weaponries, because if we show, spies ( who knows, maybe Sheytan is, or maybe I am lol) will buy weapons that can counter these...so It is smart for us to keep every single information hidden. If we go to some mountain hills you will find tanks, helis and other stuff, they are just hidden from the public and from our enemy to be unknown of what we possess in case of war.
