Kirkuk Kurdish returnees to be made homeless again

The governor of Kirkuk has given a period of 15 days to the Kirkuk returnees to leave their accommodations as they are residing in governmental offices, while those not following the orders will be sued.

Governor Najmadin Karim has demanded that the returnees of Kirkuk, who came back to Kirkuk after the toppling of the former Baath regime in 2003 and whose numbers currently exceeds 312 families, to leave their residences from the governmental offices.

Kamaran Kirkuki, a member of the jurisdiction committee of the Kirkuk Provincial Council told Kirkuk Now “The families are obliged to leave the governmental offices and they have 15 days to do so.”

“The decision was previously made by Nouri al-Maliki with the families being indemnified with five million ID and residential lands,” he added.

The governor stated those who do not follow the orders will be sued and expelled from their residence as well.

After 2003, those Kurdish families who were forced to leave the city during the reign of the Baath regime returned back to Kirkuk and some of them then took up residence in the governmental buildings including the buildings of the Agricultural, Health, Electricity, and Educational directorates.
