Kirkuk Now

Fuel costs, specifically gasoline, have increased in the past few days in Kirkuk.

Muhammad Marwan, a taxi driver told Kirkuk Now “I haven’t done any work due to crowdedness of the petrol stations and increase in the fuel costs; we don’t know how long this crisis will continue in the city which is known for petroleum resources.”

“I was surprised by the increase in the costs as I used to buy 20 liters of gasoline for 12,000 ID on the black market but the cost has increased to 18,000,” said driver Saifadin Hama.

He claimed that the increase in the costs is due to reconstruction and improvements of the refineries and stations which are located in Iskan and are currently out of service and he also urged the administration of the city to prevent further increases in the costs which may eventually end in a crisis.

Ministry of Oil denies rise in fuel costs

The Iraqi Ministry of Oil denied the speculations regarding a rise in fuel costs, especially gasoline, which have been spread recently by a number of broadcasting corporations.

Ra’ad Rafiq, director of the distribution department of the Ministry of Oil made an announcement in which he denies the rise in fuel costs by the ministry, as speculations regarding rises in the costs were circulated on a number of websites.

As mentioned in the announcement, “the rumors are far from the truth, and no official has made any statement regarding a rise in fuel costs.”

He stressed that news should not be spread unless the sources are reliable and the officials concerned with the issue are questioned.

Waves of heavy rains and a decrease in temperatures have led to increase in the demand for fuel throughout all the provinces of Iraq.
