ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Residents from two southern Erbil areas were forced to evacuate their homes on Friday as fires spread across several villages, local officials reported to Rudaw.

Hiwa Ali, spokesperson for the ministry of agriculture, said that the blazes are massive and challenging to contain, especially given the areas’ significant wheat crops. He also warned that the fires could result in severe agricultural losses.

The affected areas are Shamamik and Qushtapa subdistricts.

Erbil Civil Defense: There were more than 6 fires at the same time tonight.

But the teams sacrificed their lives to control it.

"The teams went through a tough half-hour."

Unable to find out any more information but seems odd that there were so many fires
