Yeah - "Hellas" is Greek for "Greece". And they still use it. They call their country for Hellas/Ellas... Thus the word "Helenic" - and the girls name "Helen" - which is used by all Helenized peoples... Kurds included...

We too were subjects of Alexander the Great once upon a time - and personally, I have relatives called Helen... It's probably the root of the Kurdish word "Hêlîn" - which means "Nest" - and that's what Greece was for the Greeks: their nest... So that's how "Helen" in Kurdish ("Hêlîn") meant "Nest"...

And both "Helen" and "Hêlîn" are used as girl's names in Kurdistan...

Well no you wouldn't find that - because that's not what I meant...

"Hellas" is the Greek name for "Greece". And when the Greeks spread their empire under Alexander the Great (often called the "Helenic expansion"), they "Helenized" the peoples and lands which their conquered. Now the point is, that since the Greeks call their homeland (in e.g. their "nest") for "Hellas" - the word has given root to a Kurdish word "Hêlîn" (from "Helen" - in e.g. a Greek person, which also is a girls name in both Greece and Kurdistan). Now the word "Hêlîn" in Kurdish means "Nest". And that is due to the Greek word "Hellas" being the name of their homeland (their or their "nest" if you like).

See what I mean now? "Hellas" doesn't mean "Nest". But in Kurdish, "Hêlîn" means "Nest"... And "Hêlîn" derived from "Helen" - which in turn is linked to the word "Hellas"...
