The "STAN" in KURDISTAN and "FELASTAN"

PostAuthor: Diri » Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:08 pm

I have been thinking about the word... "STAN"... you can find it as a separate word in Kurdish - which would mean "to take from" or "steal"... But you can also find it in names of Kurdistan , Afghanistan , Turkminstan, Dagistan, Kazhakhistan, Uzbekhistan, Kirgyzistan etc

"Kurdistan" pronounced "Kurd-i-stan" means: "stolen from the Kurd" :D
STAN can also mean "land"... So it could also be "Land of Kurds"

"FELASTAN" (I know it is written "PALESTINE" - but thats just the English version)
In Kurdish this word makes alot of sense - and we could argument that we gave that name to that area (yes we know the romans called it Phalstine").

"FELA-STAN" Means:" Taken from the Christian" - And we can go back in history and find that - "hey - Salahedin took it back from the Christian Crusaders"...

Isn't this fun? Language can be so much fun - especially the way Kurdish is - you can find the meaning of the words in ancient and almost prehistoric tones - just like the Basque peoples language... it is so old that some words are translated to names of primitive things...

istan isnt tukish at all,

i was litening to a persian professor (phd in Farsi langauge)
he said the word "Istan" is word comes from Iranian Language.

mind that Iranina langauge is diffrent with Farsi.

Iranian Langauge means Kurdi - Farsi - Lori - Balochi - Indian and...

Istan is a PURE kurdish word , and Turks use it in their country name like Turkamnistan , because Farsi langauge affected their language a lot !

if you look at the turkish language, at least 40% of their words are farsi .

and mind that "Istan" in farsi is a common word b between farsi and kurdi.

kurds and persians have many common things, kurds and persians are REAL genic brother -sister , they have many common things from their parent , as they have some diffrences as every brotehr and sister.

kurds and persians never been Enemy in the ancient history but Ofcourse they have commepteed with each other as two contestor.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

Dyaoko - believe it or not this is not true... Which "professor" is this? My father is educated in "Persian language and literatur" from university in Iran... I think i trust the education that was given in the SHAH*S time rather than the lies of the Iranian Clergy...

YES - Turkish has many Persian words... but you are forgetting something - Persian has many Turkic words - When the Seljuks where kings of the land... rememeber?

It is important to keep in mind that Turkish and Turkic are TWO different things - Turkish is spoken in Turkey and Turkic is the gathering mentor for Ecemî, Turkish, Turkmeni, Azeri, and Uzbekhi...

Did I say that Persians and Kurds where enemies? :D

I certainly have not :P
