In my dialect(bahdini) we say shahrah.

We say:

Rêke - road
Xîyewan - street

Rêke ? or Rêga ? (remember Bahman Ghobadi's movie, the girls name is Rega)

another word for Road is , "Jaaa" (yes Three A)

so i guess all the kurds in iraq,turkey, syria are assimilated, according to our kurdologist Dyako, who lives in Iran

Haha, Jaaa. That's the Sineyi way of saying Cade (English Spelling: Jada) . Remember, in Sine, the rough letters are omitted when speaking Soranî.

If you can read the difference between "RAQAH" and "RÊKE" you will understand that there is also difference in the way they are used...

I never liked Badînî dialect anway... It is so brutal and hard... "Raqah"?... Yuck...

Rêke means road... I never said it means "street"...

See the other word, dodo-head - it says "Xiyewan"... That is "Street"... Rêke is "Road"...

Rêke is what you have OUT of the city - and Xiyewan is what you have IN the city...

Kak Heval - we also use Cadde - But it isn't Kurdish...

Xiyewan ? Nice word. I didn't know this term. Is it for a large street or indifferent ? For streets, I say kolan or kuçe (perhaps means narrow streets ?).

And I use to say rê or rêk for road.

Yes - Rê, Rêk and Rêke are the same word... Meaning road...

And we also use Kûçe - it is used for narrow streets... Shikaks use kûçe (Didn't I once tell you that Standard Kurmancî is based on Shikakî and Amedî?) Or so it would seem if you compared the standard with other dialects...

Xiyewan is used for larger and medium streets - kûçe for the smaller ones/narrow ones...

But there are people who use both for the same... Simply Street...

Yeap. Even the poet Osman Sebrî said that he has changed Bohtî spellings in his writings for a standard kurmancî. At this time (Hawar period-1930s) it seemed urgent for Kurdish intellectuals to develop a common language for a national unity. Now, that is different... I like the diversity of dialects, and this diversity does not prevent to have a common standard Kurdish (like in Germany or Italia, which have much dialects and one national language without problems).

Yeah, Piling... You are right - I agree - Dialects can be very valuable... And they ARE - in Kurdish we have ten words for the SAME thing - while in many language they don't even have ONE native word for a thing sometimes...

Kurdish is a rich language...

Yeah, more or less for the same thing Kak Diri. I agree, it is a rich language. However, the great task of standardizing the Kurdish language based on all the dialects is long overdue. Hopefully some day in the near future

We have too many dialects in Kurdi, there needs to be one universal dialect. I think bahdini would be a good universal dialect.

how about arabic ? we can say Salamo Alaykom , Sharah , Alhamdillulah . Allahu Akbar ... instead of Roj Bash, Sheqam , Sipas, Xuda Geweres , ( Kidding )
