Which Kurdish names are uni-sex?

So far I have:

Arîn

Medya

Do you know any other? Remember there was another name... But don't can't put my fingers on it...

Heeey - good one... I agree - I can imagine that Dicle could be used for both a girl and a boy...

Dicle is the Kurdish name for the river Tigris...

Oh no! it is so confusing...! Whenever a new member writes "Hello ,my name is ..." I often don't understand if it is a man or a woman because I can't know all kurdish names, only some!
And now you are telling me there are unisex names, oh God!

In Italian in general things are easier: if it ends with A it is a woman (Giulia,Anna, Monica, Chiara, Federica,...) ,if it ends with O it is a man (Pietro, Franco, Paolo , Antonio, ..) .

Is there any rule in kurdish language to make me guess?

Why don't we put in this forum's profiles : M/F(male/female), as Shevin said?

In Kurdish usually girl names end on "a" - but there are exceptions like "Medya"...

Boy names don't end on "a" - but usualy like in Italian - on "o" or a konsonant (is that what its called?) - you know...

Vocal: A E U O I etc.
Konsonant: B C D F G H K L Q M N etc.

I think that is a good idea by the way...

But there are very few uni-sex Kurdish names...

I think there are many uni-sex names. but the thing is that some are only used for boys and others only for girls. like my name amanc is also uni-sex, but you will hardly find a girl called amanc. "Hozan" is also uni-sex, but I only know 1 female Hozan and many many male.

Hmmmm... Interesting theory...

I came to think of another name which is used by both girls and boys:

Derya

But I never heard of a girl named Amanc... So I always assumed it is a boy-name...?

Hozan however is a name I've heard on both boys and girls

Although in my eyes it is more masculin than feminin!

Okey - we need to put the meanings of the names in order to decide if they are masculin or feminin...

Shazwar? Is i Şah-ziwar? Or siwar?

If it is: Şahsiwar = King on horse/Şahê ser siwar...

i like Derya, Hewjîn(hAwjîn), Arîn and Medya the best

Jîinu
Baran
Shepul *or howeva it's spelt in kurdish :roll:

i just remembered "Aram"
when i was a lil girl back home i had a friend called Aram, it was a she.
now i gotta friend called Aram n it's a he.

and i've heard of Baran for girls too

yes, Jîinu is Jîninû meaning new life, but when pronounced, it is more like Jînû
