Besides local languages that are used for regional purposes which language do you prefer as an interregional language for a future Iranic union?
I omitted Median and Parthian and some other languages because of lack of sufficient literary material in those languages and therefore being largely unknown languages for the time being.

thank you for this interesting post. of course kurds will want kurdish, persians will want persian, and pashtuns will want pashto and picking either one will leave the others left out. persian is most widely spoken out of the ones you listed so it would make the most sense if one language had to be chosen. and do you know anyone who still speaks avestan or old/middle persian?

Probably the closest language to Middle Persian is Bakhtiari/Luri since Middle Persian was the general dialect of Fars and Luristan provinces and the Lurs/Bakhtiaris. Modern Persian, is also close to Middle Persian but it is a continuation of the Khorasani dialect of Middle Persian. It has been influenced by Soghdian, Bactrian and Parthian since these were in Khorasan also. But Luri/Bakhtiari is probably a direct continuation of the Middle Persian of Fars.
Middle Persian, Old Persian and Avesta are today dead languages. Avesta/Middle Persian was really preserved by Zoroastrians and it is learned by them. Avesta would be an interesting pick, but I think we do not necessarily need a common language. Each Iranic can learn besides his mother tongue, 2 other Iranic languages. quote]
What do you think about dari? is dari closer to middle persian than persian farsi?

i know that they are both the same language but the reason i ask if afghan farsi is closer to middle persian is because of many reasons. one interesting greeting that afghans use for example is "janet joor?" (this is a very philosophical question) and it sounded weird to me the first time i heard it as a persian speaker so i thought maybe this is what farsi used to sound like before. also there are many words that are different between persian farsi and afghan farsi. here's a couple examples :
english - persian farsi - afghan farsi
hospital - bimaristan - shafa khane
ugly - zesht - bad rang
i hope you understand what i'm trying to ask. notice that i didn't put words like gap (talk) or maqbul (pretty) in there because persians still use those words (although not as much). i was trying to show the different ways that the two dialects say the same thing. and i want to know if one is closer to middle persian than the other.
they also still use many pure persian words such as keyla for banana rather than moz which is arabic. and then there is also the differences in pronunciation of words and accent. can we say that is more correct than the other?
thanks for your time.

Ok, I added this option too:
''None: just learn your local language''

i think it is important that kurds, persians, and all iranic people try to root out arabic and turkish loanwoards. we should replace them with pure kurdish or persian words. not only will that enable iranic people to understand eachother's languages better, but it will increase each individual's knowledge of his or her own language. although it's pretty much impossible to get ride of loanwords completely, we should try to speak our own languages in their purity the best we can.

thanks for your time.
Lets end Moz. Keyla is also shared by Urdu which is a branch of the Indo Aryan languages which are in return a branch of Indo Iranian. And I think Baluchi and Pashto say Keyla also.
Notice how the more west you go the more Turkish and Arabic influence

yes that makes sense the closer you get to turkey and the arab countries, the more influence there is on the languages. i wonder maybe if pashto has hindi influences?

You all go a false way, its not possible to speak a dead language.
The only logical way is: To mix all todays spoken iranian languages with the criteria: Originality.
Like here, read this carefully, then you can understand me:

Well im guessing their is because its very close to it geographically and Pashto's dont have their own country yet. In Iranian Persian, Money is called Pul , while in Afghan Persian, its called Paisa(Same as in Hindi)

The largest ethnic group in Afganistan are Pashtuns, followed by farsi(dari)-speakers.
There are also a lot of Pashtuns in Pakistan.
