Welcome to RBK Kajol Xan

Sorani is Just like any othere languages/dialects , the best way to learn it for conversation purposes is to be around people who speak Sorani . You could also use our forum here to learn phrases or expressions and we all will be more than happy to help .

Sorani in my view is much easier to learn than kurmanji and somewhat sarcastic when spoken :D ,so you will have fun learning . Feel free to post any words or sentence in English and we will be more than happy to translate it for you to Sorani .

cheers .

Bram - means "my brother", if you like to say only "brother" is - bra (adding "m" at the end means its something which is mine)
Kelash - klash(i dont know maybe spelling problems)
Kech - well, again i dont know what to think about these "e", coz in original writing there is no letter between "k" and "ch", although when you pronounce it a soft "i" seems to be present between (brothers help me with that, coz you are experts, not me)
Kurki - actually kur is "boy", when you atteched "i" at the end you have to put something after, like "kuri xom" - "my boy" (or "my son", coz its the same word) or "kuri Hewleri" - "boy which is from Hewler"
Basham - no, you can say "basha" it means "ok" (might be used as confirm something, but generally means "good" - basic form is "bash"), when you say "bashm" means "i am ok, i am fine"
sakbab - actually "sagbab", means the father is dog - try to avoid it when you talking with Kurds, unless you reffer it to kurdish enemies
tu - yes, its means you, but in kurmandji, in sorani we say "to"
zulfi - i have no idea whats that, i didnt see that word before (maybe any of my brothers knows), for "hi" we use "slaw" (in general sense)
pair - i dont think so, maybe in some local dialect, feet is "pe"
qui - where are you is "kwei?" ("kui" in hewleri dialect means the same as "choni" :D )
girza - again i dont know these word, for gypsy i use "qerech"
dast xosha - "dast xosh" - one of the way to say "thank you"
zor jwana - zor jwani - it has nothing to do with boy or girl, in sorani we dont have a difference like that (in kurmandji it is), zor jwana - when you talk about someone else, the 3rd person, "she or he is beutiful (or it is beutiful), zor jwani - when you say it to someone - "you are beutiful"

xoshm ewet - "i love you", but i have no clue what is "kash mar" and "hayatem dykam" - i suppose its because of spelling.

If my brothers want to add anyhting i will be glad.

Hi, There's a Sorani/English phrasebook written by Nicolas Awde, its pretty basic and occasionally some of the words in it are wrong but it's okay. There's different sections on things like food, travel, shopping etc and it has a small dictionary. I can't remember where I got mine from as I bought it ages ago and have since misplaced it, but if you go to any major bookstore they may be able to order it for you.
