In this thread, I will post a word - and I expect everybody who has a different name for the word, to post THEIR way of saying the word... In e.g. how you say it in YOUR dialect!

You will have to give reference to your area, and the English pronounciation - so please do as I have done below!



What do YOU call "plate" - the one you have your food on, in Kurdî?


In Colemêrg, we call it:


Kurdî: Tasik
English: Taasek

In French : assiette.
In Kurdish : Asyêt.

Is that what it says in the Baran Rizgar, dictionary? Sounds like a copy of the French word for it...

It was French Kurdish dialect

Bara Rizgarî says : tebaq, tebaxça, tacî, tasîk.

But I used to say firax, like in Bedir Xan's courses... but in that dictionanry it is firax= dish.

in any case, in real Kurdish meal you have no plates, just dishes !

And I don't know where you have those funny ideas from... Of course we use PLATES, and FORK and SPOON and KNIFE...

You are talking about the poor who haven't got the luxery to have that... And they are VERY FEW...

Seynik... Yeah I have heard of that one - but only because it resembles what we call a "Seynî" - which is in English called "Tray"...

But in Kurdish, in general - when we put the ending "nik" it is a reference to something small... So Seynik sounds like a logical dirivation of Seynî...

well if there are no difference between dish and plates, I wonder whyt it is not the same names in dictionnary.

But I make a confusion between dish and tray ok.

Of course you have NOW. But is is a Western influence.. In traditionnal Kurdish meal you eat in a common tray and you put your meal on bread.

Spoon : I say kefçe. Knife : kêr. Fork ? mmm.. I forgot the name I've learned : çetel ? Tray ? sehnê

LOL! Who invented the fork, spoon and knife?

Anyway... We are talking about what we call "Plate" only...

We will take the others when we have heard what the Soranî and Goranî speakers here call "Plate"...

That is the correct Latîn spelling, Chichalok... It isn't hard at all...

And your dialect - is Badînî, right?
