how to run RPM files in Ubunutu linux ?

here is my first question , I hope you can help me ,

I have installed Ubuntu Linux, I have RealPlayer's RPM file on a USB Drive [Storage]

I can access to the USB Drive, but when I click on the RealPlayer's Install file which is a RPM file, it wont be excuted... [as it used to do in Red Hat Linux]

i guess there should be a comman do excute files... please help me.

is realplayer installed and running?
if it is installed correctly it should be executed. You can try to execute it from command line.

I was told to change my RPM file to DEB , and then install it..

I did it , but still dont know how to run realplayer...it is not in the prgoram menu.

well the erorr is like , there is no such a thing...while I installed a Deb file.


how do you usualy install programs in ubunutu?
if you have donwloaded the file manualy from internet ?

sorry mate, totaly forgot to post back.
Normaly u can just run the insall package. Or du it from terminal.
Make sure u are loged in as SUDO then search op the path where you downloaded the file and do install or install help for more options.

I am going to install Ubuntu today on my laptop. It will stay there from now on.
I canhelp you much faster after installing it.

actualy i got i learnt some things...


for example to run a program I must enter this

Code: Select all
./filename.sh


my problem is still installing my stupid INTERNAL dial up modem...


i guess the best way to install programs is to use Ap-Get (ubunutu will automaticly install programs for you, if you have internet.)
