KRG Elections : first results

KDP is the winner, PUK the big loser, Gorran is now the 2nd opponent party : though KDP has the majority by itself, it will probably seek alliance in the aim to preserve 'social peace'. But will it ally with Gorran alone, with PUL alone or with both Gorran and PUK ?

These are not the final results. We have to wait for the results being published by IHEC.

I have no doubt that KDP is the winner though. I would like to have seen PUK being the second, I really do not get people who vote for Gorran movement.

There are also 11 seats reserved for minorities, which must be taking into account.

I hope, that somehow, the next government formation will include all most parties, so we have less trouble. Power, is after all what they want.

PUK and Gorran votes are so closed each others, that their rank can change, of course, with the final results. I think also that KDP will share the power, even if technically it could rule alone : I can not imagine people from Sulaymanieh accepting a 100% KDP government.

For KDP to rule alone it needs at least 56 seats but according to Peyamner KDP got 42 seats. So it can not rule alone. According to the same source PUK got 18. So with the help of PUK it can form the government. Both parties undertaken to continue their strategic alliance after election. According to the same source Goran got 22 seats. So 20 seats have gone to Islamists. It seems Islamists have gained but goran and PUK lost some seats.

In a net shell, the results are similar to 1991 election when KDP got 42 seats and PUK got 40 seats. The only difference now is that the PUK vote divided between PUKL and Goran, which was a part of PUK before both got a total of 40 seats. It seems people have voted for party loyalty not for issues.

It is a shame that the would-be politicians are more interested in personal power - rather than making Kurdistan a more powerful, peaceful and prosperous independent country

There were some fights in Suleymanieh the last night : some PUK idiots do not accept they lost. Will they start a civil war each time they face a defeat in election ?

Dear Anthea,

I spoke to him this morning. He was very optimistic but now no one is sure about the results. I thought the results would be declared tomorrow but he said it wouldn't be upto the end of the month because of a lot of complications. I am just crossing my finger for him to win.

Regards
