i am teasing. my mind was taken over today with the question he raised about the 2004 elections and i had just posted a reply to that, so i was not thinking of "me" vs. "min."

by the way, i would add that if one knows the latin alphabet, the latin alphabet for kurdish is very easy to learn. i learned it even before i had a good idea of what kurdish even sounded like.

i know that probably sounds weird. . .

It isn't "ape" - it is "ap" - and it is a Northern Kurdish expression...

Other words you may or may not use:

"Mam" û "Ap" = uncle on fathers side...

"Xal" = uncle on mothers side...

"Met" = aunt on fathers side...

"Xaltîk" û "Xaltê" = aunt on mothers side...

"Pismam"/"Kurmam" = uncles son on fathers side...

"Dotmam"/"Kichmam" = uncles daughter on fathers side...

"Kurxal" = uncles son on mothers side...

"Kichxal" = uncles daughter on mothers side...

"Birazî" = "nephew" for the fathers brother/sister...

"Xarzî" = nephew for the mothers brother/sister...

Well, actually, I should correct myself brother. We have never used the word "Lal" to refer to our uncles. We only use the word, "Lalo" - like my uncle, Lalo Ali I do not think there is another word for uncle on your mother's side in Kurdî so I'm sticking with my Hewramî roots on this one
