Jihadists have left the city in fear of spontaneous attacks by civilians

Hundreds of Islamic State (IS) fighters have left the city of Fallujah and moved to a surrounding area in Iraq, said a military commander in the city.

Following the attacks carried out by the Iraqi army and tribal forces on IS in Jolan area in the south of Fallujah, and after liberating some neighbourhoods of the city from IS on February 25, more than 600 IS jihadists fled the area.

The IS jihadists remaining in the city are estimated to be 400, according to sources in the city.

BasNews previously reported that some Sunni Arab tribal forces gathered in Fallujah to stand against the atrocities carried out by IS insurgents against the locals.

They managed to liberate some neighbourhoods of the city by killing several militants in the area.

The extreme Sharia laws imposed in IS-held areas and the brutal actions by the jihadist group has encouraged some unidentified armed groups to, every now and then, carry out deadly attacks on IS positions and inflict the jihadists with heavy damages.
