it is a big deal. Our existence is shown in their kurdish names. We have to call it by their kurdish names. Germans dont mind people call their state Germany but no German will ever call deutschland for Germany. My point is that i dont mind arabs call Hawler for what they like but we as kurds should not call it the arabized name. If we do so then we are supporting their politics of kurdish elimination and zero tolerance for every single kurdish thing.
so yes it is a big deal and kurds are unconsciously supporting the politics of enemies should wake up NOW.

and about ur name , my point wasn't to misspell it. I just want to call u chochalok and see what u feel about being called something i just came up with.

Chichalok... If I call you "Chochalok" - does it have the same meaning? Or has it lost it's meaning? Chichalok is what we in Kurdish call "cute little things"... Directly translated "Chichalok" means "little/small/tiny"... If we say "Chochalok" instead - does it bear the same meaning still? (Think about it - Names are EVERYTHING...)

And I am glad to see that so many people have contributed to this discussion - and glad to see that Kardox, has already gotten my (as well as his own) point across...

Have you thought about why people in Amed might call it "Diyarbekir"? Did it ever occure to you that it may be a sign of assimilation?

Yesterday - the day before, a year back and five years back... I was reminded of the poor assimilated Kurd... And you know what? It scares me - assimilation scares me... When I see an assimilated person - be he Kurdish, Persian or Arab (or even a Turk) - I am reminded of every (other) assimilated Kurd...

Nothing in this wide world -in my mind- is worse than being assimilated... That is why I cherish every inch of Kurdish culture, history and language. There is nothing more holy (except God) than Kurdishness! I am heartbroken everytime I see an assimilated Kurd - and it hurts... Because I have to question why and how he has forsaken his beautiful Kurdishness... :(

To me - this life is a chance to spread joy, give a helping hand to those who need it and to promote and develope my roots and culture...

The Kurdish names of Kurdistan - is parts of my roots and culture - it is my duty to promote them - and to stand for who I am...

Ps - There is no rulebook on how to be Kurdish - we come in many shapes and forms - and we utter and cherish Kurdisness in many ways... Some promote it through language and others through music and dance...

You can write very good kak Diri.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

"The Kurdish names of Kurdistan - is parts of my roots and culture - it is my duty to promote them - and to stand for who I am.."

well i guess you dont stand for much, becuase there are very few citys in kurdistan that have kurdish names. the citys in iraq and syria have arabic names and some farsi. the citys in turkey have turkish and some arabic names. and the people who inhabit those citys are happy with those names.

A little comment about Tunceli/Dersim. They're both turkish names, the population of that city hates the word Tunceli (iron fist) because it was named that way right after Ataturk massacred thousands of civilians there, so the people use Dersim instead. The original kurdish name of that city is Mamikiye though.
