Chichalok... If I call you "Chochalok" - does it have the same meaning? Or has it lost it's meaning? Chichalok is what we in Kurdish call "cute little things"... Directly translated "Chichalok" means "little/small/tiny"... If we say "Chochalok" instead - does it bear the same meaning still? (Think about it - Names are EVERYTHING...)
And I am glad to see that so many people have contributed to this discussion - and glad to see that Kardox, has already gotten my (as well as his own) point across...
Have you thought about why people in Amed might call it "Diyarbekir"? Did it ever occure to you that it may be a sign of assimilation?
Yesterday - the day before, a year back and five years back... I was reminded of the poor assimilated Kurd... And you know what? It scares me - assimilation scares me... When I see an assimilated person - be he Kurdish, Persian or Arab (or even a Turk) - I am reminded of every (other) assimilated Kurd...
Nothing in this wide world -in my mind- is worse than being assimilated... That is why I cherish every inch of Kurdish culture, history and language. There is nothing more holy (except God) than Kurdishness! I am heartbroken everytime I see an assimilated Kurd - and it hurts... Because I have to question why and how he has forsaken his beautiful Kurdishness...
To me - this life is a chance to spread joy, give a helping hand to those who need it and to promote and develope my roots and culture...
The Kurdish names of Kurdistan - is parts of my roots and culture - it is my duty to promote them - and to stand for who I am...
Ps - There is no rulebook on how to be Kurdish - we come in many shapes and forms - and we utter and cherish Kurdisness in many ways... Some promote it through language and others through music and dance...
