I hate it too ! 
for making an addition I need my fingers ! But it is just an astuce :

so you see 1 and you say "there is one 1 =11
and under the 11 you see two 1 so you say : 21= one 2 two 1 = 211, etc

OK, no numbers...
Some scientific have found 2 human bodies in the ices of Antartic : a man and a woman, very well preserved by coldness. They have analysed and examined them and at the end they conclude that they are SURE that they were Adam and Eve's corpses.
Why ?

Better indice than a missing rib in Adam (not Eve)... Something EVIDENT ! Some other people could have lost a rib.. But they are naked, ok, and no need to cut their stomach or breast for notice something... a characteristic that could assure us of their identity... think... think..
