Suleimani (TheKurdistani.com) by Azad Hewrami – During anti-Danish protests in the city of Hewler (Erbil) in Southern Kurdistan, angry Islamicist protests burnt down Danish flags on 14th of February 2006.


According to the Erbil-based Kurdish weekly, Midiya, the demonestration was organised by the Kurdistan Islamic Union, the Kurdish Islamic Union (Yekgrtu) and the Kurdistan Islamic Group (Komall), to protest the publication of cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammad in Danish newspapers.

Several protestors burnt several Danish flags in front of the Kurdistani Parliament in Hewler, a move which the organisers regretted, according to Midiya.
Abdulfatah Abdulrazaq, A Kurdish international legal expert told Kurdish newspaper that burning flags of other nations have international consequences and the relations of Kurdistan and Denmark may suffer as a result.

From the photo published by Midiya newspaper, TheKurdistani.com observers can reveal that some of the protestors are showing the Turkish “Grey Wolves” fingers, a gesture used by Turkish nationalists in Turkey and Iraq.

Thanks for other members of this forum we have become aware of your true identity. I personally would question the Kurdishness of anyone that pays to too much interest to Islam to the detriment of Kurdish cause. I do not think the Islamic world deserves any respect from the Kurds. They are the ones that have ignored the oppression of kurds for manby years.
Please do not expect me as a Kurd to have some sympathy for Islam when they did not even find it in their hearts to condemn the gassing of Kurds in Halabja. We have been oppressed by Muslims, period. That is it.Nothin any MUslim says is going to change that. While I can't expect all Kurds to discard their religion (despite the fact that we were forcefully converted to Islam many years ago, the fact of the matter is that it was many years ago), I believe it is my right to demand a more Kurdish centric interpretation of Islam. Any other universal interpretation of Islam is simply another manifestation of Arap nationalism.

If you guys think that Islam will be employed as a Trojan hourse in Kurdistan than I am afraid you are very mistaken. Kurdish people are well aware of the hypocracy of the muslim world. So please calm down and try to learn some values from Denmark and other western countries. You never know, you might learn to become human again, as I presume you were born human but years of indoctrination left no traces of humanity.

Besides, you seem to confuse Arab nationalism with Islam. First of all, all Arabs are not muslim. There are more than 15 million christian arabs living in Arab World. First of all, When Kurds were Gassed by Saddam there was a Conference of Islamic COuntries, at that conference they mentioned every bloody muslim in every corner of the world that they beleived was being oppressed somehow or another. But NO ONE ( NOT ONE ISLAMIC COUNTRY) mentioned the killing of Kurds. If this does not prove that Islam is simply a manifestation of Arab nationalism than I am not sure what is. Otherwise, since Kurds are predominatly muslim, there needed to be some protest at the treatment of 'fellow Muslim Brothers' (oh I must not forget, Sisters as well)

Furthermore, if Islam has nothing to do with Arap nationalism then why the hell are you required to pray in Arabic, is your God unable to understand any other language? Why can't muslim Kurds pray in Kurdish? I do believe the day will come when Muslim Kurds will pray in Kurdish, however untill that day, attempting to differentiate between Arap nationalism and Islam can not be taken seriously?

And even if we do overcome Arab nationalism and create a new interpretation of Islam from a Kurdish perspective, we still need to question and get rid of many anachronistic beliefs and values advocated in Islam. Believe it or not many values and beliefs expressed in Islamic sources is very primitive. THere is no way of creating a modern society with demoncrratic values without questioning and discarding such values. Democratic society does not simply mean having an election every few years. Democratic society is characterized by a way of life that fundamentally contradicts Islamic belief in the absolute authority of Quran. Now you might say that it is similar to Christianity. I will agree. However, the CHristians forced the church to retreat several hundred years ago. Muslims have not achieved such a thing. First of all Mosque's must be forced to retreat from having total control over social and political life. Only then will there be a move towards democracy in the Muslim world. And that will only come with critical self reflection that is dangerously absent in the Islamic societies.
A good place to start would be to stop putting out Fatwahs here and there every time someone expresses some views that contradict Islam. So in short, go look at the mirror for a very long time, by all means continue to believe in God and worship him all you like ( the poor guy needs people like you to worship him, otherwise his life becomes meaningless) however, if you want people to respect your religion then demonstrate through practice what kind of positive contribution Islam can provide for humanity. I don't believe there is any, but I could be wrong, Prove me wrong.

As you said it is a union of Islamic countries. All countries are political entities with specific purposes, not a council of religious representatives.
I am sure they did not submit any resolutions about Checenya or Uyghur Turks or many others.

Secondly you seem to confuse Islam with Christianity. Islam does not have a central religous authority like Christianity. If you want to change Islam try changing yourself not by degrading any religion. If people change, religion cahnges too. Besides, do not be stupid to believe that religion would change in a trival society no matter if it is kurdish or arabic. Tribal leaders need religion to control people, be it christianity or islam.

Lastly, I am not a devout muslim or any expert on religion. But I can not stand poeple blaming all thing they do not like about their poeple on a religion.
