Kharpurt comes from Armenian Khartpert. In Armenian, pert= rock, clift. But Aramean people called him : Hisn Zayt, and Roman translated it as "castellum Ziata" so Castle of Ziata.
Then Kharput is a vulgar form of common Armenian.
Franj crusaders transformed it in "Quart-Pierre" then Quarter-Stone...
Then Kurds say Xarpût.
