Barzani: We will not attack PKK

PostAuthor: Vladimir » Thu Apr 06, 2006 2:27 pm

It was reported that Turkey had a very critical dialogue with Massoud Barzani because of PKK presence in north of Iraq. Hurriyet discloses the secret file of the chain of talks between the Turkish executives and Barzani, who is accepted as the ''leader of Kurdish region'' in Baghdad.
Turkey: ''There are 3500 PKK militants in north of Iraq. You can launch an operation against them. This operation will be accepted as a good will for the following developments.''

Barzani: It is not possible for us to do something at the moment. You should know that everything changed here after war. Syrian and Iranian Kurds are also here. Even if I give orders, it is not possible for the Kurds to shoot at each other.

Turkey: ''We have agreed with Iran and Syria. Iran handed over more than 60 terrorists. If you can not launch an operation, at least eliminate their logistic support.''

Barzani: Issue amnesty. Most of them will come from the mountains. Only 500 people core cadre will remain. They will go to other countries.''

MILLIYET (LIBERAL)
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

LOL, except in 1994, 1995, 1996, etc, between PDK/PUK/PKK or even Islamists...

By the way I appreciate his manoeuvre. He just means : You don't accept a Kuridsh federation, then we won't hunt the PKK for your comfort.

He wants to make it a point of negociation, it is clear in the whole interview. He reproaches to Turkey to refuse to recognize the Kurdish Federal State.

Tne trouble is that if PKK started war against Turkey from Southern Kurdistan basis, it will put KRG in trouble and allow Turkey to enter in the country as they did many time in 90s. And I don't think that PKK leaders like Karayilan are very fond a a free and democraic Southern Kurdistan.

In any case, Barzani had never the intention to erase PKK basis with a military way from Kandil. The battlefield is too difficult to access. Even US say it is impossible, and Turks know it; They have never been able to remove guerilla withint their own border, then in a foreign country...

Then all of these is only a fight of words and empty gestures...

but what is changed is that in 90s KDP let enter Turkish army to crush PKK for the former was allied with PUK to fight KDP. Now alliances had changed, then Barzani sent a message warning Turkey that Southern KUrds won't allow military intervention from Turkey in their country. It is niot for the sake of PKK but for his own country.

I dont give a shit that what karaylan thinks , I just know when I read history that kurds in the past had fighted against each other for the sake of Stupidity , I hate it.

and I dont want any Kurd who loves kurdistan be killed by another kurd who loves kurdistan.
by my idea , it is better that turkey attack KRG to fight PKK than, KRG attack Kurdish soliders of PKK .

if turkey attack KRG , it will increase kurdish nationalism , I swear I myself would be the first one to sing up for the peshmerga to kill some fucker Turkish solider.

Some of those "fucker Turkish soldiers" are Kurds who have been forced into the military - because in Turkey there is a compulsory military service...

It's not a proffessional army only consisting of people loyal to the Turkish republic...

I agree though - IF Turkey attacks the KRG - Kurdish nationalism will definetly rocket... Kurds in Southern Kurdistan already have strong disliking of Turks - so I wonder how much more they can "dislike" them...

I don't think Turkey will attack KRG... or it would be a suicide for Turkey

If they want really to do it, they had done it aldready, since 2003 in fact.

But if PKK attacks Turkey from Southern Kurdistan basis, it decreases the chances to Southern Kurdistan to be considered as a whole and stable state, for US or EU, for example. And you wish or not, Kurdistan needs economically that Turkish border stays opened.

yes a stable kurdistan is needed , but in any case Southern Kurds shouldnt Killl Northern Kurds , even if kurdistan loose its stability or economy.
so ppl who agree with Tom , better say "Barzani should limit PKK's activity so they dont make headache" not "kill them".

PKK has changed its name, its path ,its strategy ,its flag .... many many times , I am sure they would change again if there be pressure on them by their kurd brothers. they are not that stuborn , and they have proved they are smarter than other kurdish parties.( my mean here is Eastern Kurdish parties, who are really dispapoting , I am saying this reading their websites and hearing news about their Un-Succesfull TV)

Hum I'm not sure that PKK leaders are not stubborn...

If PKK guerilla stays in Qandil without attacking Turkey, it would not be a great trouble. In fact the better is to let PKK members leave freely the mountains if they wish and join Kurdish civilian society (but leaders don't allow them, though many had fled and are sheltered as peshmergas, for example).

But if PKK retarts the war against Turkey and launches its attacks from Southern Kurdistan (as they did in 90s) then it will put in trouble Kurdistan and Iraq, from a diplomatical point of view.

Morever, Barzani is skillfull when he makes a such statement, for he knows very well that even if he wishes to do he could not get rid of PKK in Qandil. But with these words he adopts a patriotic and pro-unity attitude, which makes him popular and then people see him as a pro-Kurdish leader. Then it is a good manoeuvre  .. for Barzani's reputation.

Long life to guerilleros of north Kurdistan.
One guerillero is worth ten peshmergas of south, and they know it these jash, they are not able to beat them even if they are more numerous.
