When the plane was getting ready to land in Sochi, Russia. The Russian dispatcher told the captain that they were not allowed to land due to the bad weather. The plane turned back, and it was either going to go back to Armenia or land in Georgia. While in the air the Russian dispatcher contacted the plane and told the captain that the weather was getting much better and they were now allowed to turn back and land. Unfortunatly the weather did not get better . In fact the ground and the ranway were not visible at all. As of now, the cause of the crash id belived to be the bad weather.

On-line resources to learn Armenian

PostAuthor: daristani » Mon May 08, 2006 11:11 am

I just saw the query about learning Armenian. Here is a link with some brief lessons to learn the eastern dialect (the one spoken in Armenia and Iran), The western dialect, spoken in Istanbul and in Lebanon, is quite different.

http://www.learnarmenian.com/NonArmenia ... menian.cfm

There is also an on-line conversation guide to the eastern dialect that was prepared for the US Peace Corps about a decade ago. It's a lengthy (176-page) PDF file and is available at

http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICDocs/data/er ... tent_stora ge_01/0000000b/80/23/ae/4d.pdf

Armenian is a beautiful language, and I hope you enjoy working on it. Good luck!

I wouldn't say that Eastern and Western Armenian are much different. The sounds are a little different, for example the name "David" is pronounced with a "D" in Eastern Armenian and with a "T" in Western. In other words the pronounciation with "D" and "T" or "G" and "K". That's about it. Another thing that I can think of is that the letter "V" is written a little different in western and eastern. For the most part it's the same. Here in Los Angeles, where one of the largest Armenian communities are there are Armenians from all over the world and I have not met anyone who speaks Western Armenian but can not understands Eastern Armenian or vice verca.

Link doesn't work

PostAuthor: daristani » Mon May 08, 2006 8:38 pm

I think the problem must be that the URL is divided into two lines. If you just go to the main ERIC site ( http://www.eric.ed.gov/ ) and type in "Armenian" in the search bar, you'll come up with a bunch of documents, most of which are in fact not available, but one of them is the Peace Corps Armenian manual, which is available. It'll open with a PDF file with the address I provided.

As to your question, I'm not Armenian, but used to have some Armenian friends and always found Armenian to be a beautiful language, and always wanted to learn it. The alphabet always defeated me, however...

Armenian is not a world language, not useful for trading. There are not many Armenians in the world, so it's a loos language. We could better learn languages that are useful for our cause.

What a silly thing to say...

Everybody should learn as many languages as they like and any one of the ones in the world - not just English, French and Spanish...

We are gonna need Kurds who speak Armenian - because Kurdistan and Armenia have close historical and political ties...

This, you cannot deny!!!

And Armenian, is like any other language - useful in it's area... No use to speak English in Amazonas...

Kurdistan has no political ties with Armenia. Kurds in Armenia were betrayed in the '20's and Armenia treats it's Kurds like shit.

Now you haven't explained what Armenian is good for?
Political motives NOT,>> Armenia and Kurdistan do not border eachother NOW
Cultural motives NOT, Hindu people are closer to Kurds than Armenians

Economical motives NOT, Armenia is unknown language in the world

Please, go to bed and leave me...

You are a headache...

First of all - Kurds and Armenians share common ancestors - such as Urartu, Hurrians and other caucasoid peoples...

Secondly:

http://www.kurdmedia.com/news.asp?id=11248

WHERE you will find the following line:

Democratic Party of Armenia and Democratic Party of Kurdistan (Iraq) signed a Protocol on cooperation, as a REGNUM correspondent has been informed by head of Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) Aram Sarkisyan.

Kurds and Armenians have a common enemy in Turkey...

And your allegation that Kurds in Armenia were "betrayed" - what do you mean with that?

I think it was a very natural reaction to Kurds helping Turks massacre 1.5 million Armenians... Don't you think? :?
