how to use "i" in latin script

PostAuthor: dyaoko » Sun May 21, 2006 9:33 pm

I have a question about i in latin scripts,
in know it wont be pronouced with when we write it,
for example Bijî would be pronounced like bjî .

in the word Peyamnêr .
shouldnt be an i between m and n ? like peyaminêr ?

Actually, brother...

That "i" is pronounced...

But Soranî Kurdish dialects - in many cases don't say the "i" even if it is written that they should...

Maybe speaking fast?

hmm.. letter "i" in the latini script doesn't exist in the Sorani Script. This letter's misplaced when spelling words in Sorani. :?

Actually... Now I am not a Soranî speaker - but that isn't quite true...

Bijî - say it a couple times... And taste the word...

I think you will find that you do pronounce the "i" - just slightly...

But if you stretch the word:

What then would be "bji" would become:
"Bbbbbbbbjîîîîîî" - and naturally - all the "b"'s end up producing the "i" which we missed so much in the "bjî" word...

Now you have the "bijî"

Did that work?

nope! 8)
i'm a sorani speaker, and to be honest i'm still learning how to learn in kurdish using latini script, but as what i've learnt so far, letter "i" will be write after "b" but will not pronounced. eg; Bixwa
anywayz, i might not be right, as i'm only a learner

Alrighty wise guy...

Let me show you what I meant...

Say B

Say B again

Say it ONE more time B B B B B B...

Notice how the sound "i" IS there? Because when you breath out - the sound comes automatically...

Even saying "B-xwa" - you have the "i" sound right after the B...

I think perhaps the problem is that you have not fully contained the "i" sound to understand it?

Yeah... Sure...

Conclusion:

The "i" sound a is bi-effect of every konsonant...

B
C
CH
D
F
G
H

Etc... The list goes on...

It is actually a Kurdish linguistic rule: those letters which have bi-sounds... Are not vocals... They are konsonants...

"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" - no "i"
"eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" - no "i"

:D

God Bless the "i" :)

It should be Peyamner...

Dyaoko - you might know this as would all Rojhelati Kurds - you can cut up the words in "Bexsh"... Parts... I am guessing you do - because it is usual in schools in Iran - that you cut the words into parts...

"Chend bexshe?" my teacher would ask me - and I would have to cut up the word in parts:

Pey-Am-Ner :)

(And usually - we would use our arms to demonstrate! Hahaha  ) Like this:

Ahhhh... The good old school days...

These days I have to write 2500 smart word essays which actually say something on an academic level...
