Kurdish Homeland, Iranian Atorpatkan & Turkish Azerbaijan
We all know that Kurds lived in the region west of lake Urmia since very ancient times, when the region some times was called Atorpatkan. much later in modern times, the region witnessed a turkificatuion through deprtation of local Kurds to northern xorasan, to Turkmenistan, Kazakistan and central asia by Iranian government and replacing turks, such as Afshar or qarapapaq turks to the region. so that for example in the city of Urmia in the beguning of the last century the number of turks was more than Kurds. But later after 1979 the region again witnessed a slow but large and growing rekurdification of the cities, through both immigration of Kurds from villages and rural areas to cities, and the higher birth rate of Kurds compared to Azeris.
As you now the region was known as Atorpatkan by iranian officials, indicating to Iranian-speaking Azeris. but in modern times turkic-speaking people of the region used the name Azerbaijan as a turkish terminology, defining where azerbaijani turks live, or in more simple words, today Azerbaijan is a pan-turkist word rather than being a word serving pan-Iranism, or persian nationalism, or even Kurdish nationalism.
Despite this since 1979 Shite revolution in Iran, in which the Shia Azerbaijanis, where united with Shia Persians, the region still have been known as west Azerbaijan. although one can prove with neutral evidence that the majority of the regions are Kurds. (almost everybody know this simple fact, which if required can be discussed).
But in recent years the ethnic and politic situtation of the region totally changed: An extremist Azerbaijani movement (supported by Neo-Mongols such as MHP) is growing. They claim whole of this Kurdish-inhabited province belongs to Azerbaijan, (just because it carries the name of Azerbaijan). and say Kurds are imposing another Nagorno-Karabagh against Azerbaijanis.
and they no longer feel themselves close to Shiate persians. they also consider Shia Azerbaijanis cooperating with Persians (for example based on being Shia) as treators.
On the other hand Kurds are rapidly becomming stronger in the middle east.
This by itlsef is a huge damage and threat to both Pan-Iranism, and Persian nationalism, (the later being integrated with the ruling Shia-Persian movement). Persians themselves feel this catastroph, and thut's why they are trying to make themselves more close to Kurds than before they did.
But here my topic is about the majority Kurdish-inhabited province of west Azerbaijan:
1) I ask Kurds what do you think is good to do?
2) I know that there are persian nationalist movements who talk about Kurdish-Persian friendship. I ask them are they ready to accept to solve this conflict by choosing a much more proper name for the province?
