Sadr Followers Target Assyrian School Girls in Baghdad

GMT 11-30-2006 16:11:13
Baghdad (AINA) -- Followers of Moqtada al-Sadr have issued a fatwa1 concerning school girls, according to an Assyrian priest in Baghdad. The fatwa requires all girls to wear the veil while attending school. In an unusual twist of logic, the fatwa implies that failure to wear the veil would be tantamount on the girls' part to complicity in the death of the Imam Husayn ibn Ali (killed in 680 A.D. in Karbala in a battle with the army of the Caliphate.)

The priest indicated the fatwa was at least for the New Baghdad neighborhood, where many Christians live, and that he feared for the safety of the Christian girls in the area.

The fatwa appears to be an attempt by Sadr and his followers to establish a Taliban style Islamic theocracy in Iraq. According to an article in the Middle East Journal, "Muqtada called on May 2 [2003] for strict Islamic law to be applied to Iraq's Christians, as well, including the prohibition on bars and on allowing women to appear unveiled. This ruling appears to be a restatement of one of his father's fatwas, but this time the al-Sadr family had the authority to make it stick in some parts of Iraq. In contrast, Grand Ayatollah Sistani issued a statement saying that the Najaf establishment had not called for forcible veiling."

Editor' note: AINA has withheld the name of the priest to ensure his safety.

1A fatwa is a Muslim pronouncement on a specific issue, issued by a Muslim cleric.

Well bro - it's evident that day by day, the violence has escalted - so the Assyrians would do well in moving up north to Assyria - and if they don't feel safe there - they should move to Southern Kurdistan...

That will also earn them self-determination in the long run...

You should work to make up the majority in the Nineveh Plains to secure regional autonomy in the future in an Assyria...

if u want my idea , we should make a border of Ethinc with arabs...
we can put Assyrians between ourself and arabs...

KRG should support Pro-Kurdish Assyrians , and make them vote for Kurds , I think assyrians should go to mosul...which is near to kurdistan but not mainly kurdish... and they can decrease precent of arabs in the mousl , and balance it .
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

Nineveh is the most green area in northern Iraq! The desert lies in anbard province!

Some people lack big in history!
You need some lessons about Middle Eastern History, that people tell you where and what Assyria was/is!

Assyrians dance like that too - Assyrians and Kurds have lived side by side for many years so cultural intergration is inevitable.

Funny how you, a Kurd, demand respect because you are indigenous to the region, and yet you condemn a group who is just as indigenous to the region as you! A shame, really - a big shame

You are doing to the Assyrians what Arabic, Turkic, and Iranian governments have done to you!

i seen that picture somewhere in Kurdish sites...
This people they faked the image,, they edited, look you can tell from picture...

This peoples are not claiming from Arab , they claiming their imaginary land from us,they bring their war to us.. we are been guardian of this few people..now they try victimize situion,. for them Kurdistan is not existed .for them all kurds must be perished,, i know this peoples
Look if few those so called Assyrian living in your capital city tahran, or Bagdad, are you going to build empire our your head for them...? we have million Kurd live in kazkistan, in Russia..in European..maybe we have 200 millions..are we going create Kurdistan in Germany because we know have over half million population, compare to over 100 millions German.

In Kurdistan this people including occupied land by Arabs and Turks and Persian compromised 1% Kurdish population..Each one of them live different city..or town...what kind logic accept their imaginary ideas...
The only place they can administer thelsf and i accpt is small town near mosel..so if this popels majority dicide for some kind administration under Kurdistan government..i raspact that,,,eevery kurds would raspact that..but no kurds..ever accpy their faluse dream of calimg land of Medya..that would finish them off..if thos thugs claiming such dream..i tell them now bring it on...

Right now in Mosel some of this thugs, Assyrian parties grouping with Sunnis Arab terrorist, they bombing Kurdish families in mosel,, ,everyday we have blood of kurds,,, over 100000 kurds fleet..i know what this people doing..

@diri
Bê terbiyet! Bê edeb!

You are no match for me... I just feel sorry for you...

What is this!! Are you swearing me in Arabic!!! Go learn Kurdish before talking to me!! i don’t understand Arabic so if you swearing it better be Kurdish...

No match for me..wow!!!!! hhhhhhh, I knew it, you have family history of violence!! you mentally grow up very immaturely..look..I don’t take anything personally against you. Because i know you now .so be cool!! take your medication.... get your girls around post us some babes pictures.....good boy, you doing great!!!

Your blue map, You just make me Lough..is well been design in Kurdistan very populated area...

Historically speaking in very early 20’ century Mosel was majority Kurds, there is figures by ottoman and British...and Kurdistan government. Mosel has been always in agenda of Kurdistan aspiration, but looking fact and reality of today,, because borders drawn by population...east river of mouel will join Kurdistan.(unless your Arab and Syrian-Cartesian brothers bombing and finish off Kurds in there).if you so smart..Just read interview of Xosru Goran the deputy govnoer of Mosel...in http://www.nefel.com you don’t know nothing ,,you think arbic-milldeast study give you enough information with few pages about Kurds??? One more think last year election Kurds win majority vote in Mosel, to govern(Arab made excuse that they boycotted), but for sake stability they give governor to Arabs, and keep deputy for themselves

No wonder you so ignorance...Mosel historically is Kurdistan ask your boss"pilling", she have more middle east Logies..she may know well.

"bi adab" and "bi tarbiyat" are not swears lol! They mean "rude" or "un-mannered."

Tell me, King Diyako, what have you accomplished in your life that is soooo great? Diri makes beautiful Kurdish clothing for women and women respect him for it because he is continuing the Kurdish tradition and culture. What have you done for your people that makes you so much better?
