Could I ask you for the source you used? Where did you hear/read etc. that word? :)

It's an interesting word... Sîlva....

As I know Ûrmiye county (Persian şehrêstan), with its up 600,000 population is considered to be biggest Şikakî populated city in Kurdistan. One of the old villages around Ûrmiye is "Sîlvana" or " Sîlvane". Its name was so attractive for me and when I asked local people what "Sîlvana" means they answered that it means "like/similar to jungle". My local informants mentioned that "sîlva" is an old word which people don't use it anymore. In Kurdish "-in", "-în", "ên", "-ine" are suffixes that difinte similarity. Therefore we have "Sîlva-na/ne" ("jungle-like/similar").

Thanks for sharing... I think I will ask my mom next time I talk to her... I wonder if she knows the meaning without me telling her...

Oh and kake gyan - şarî Ûrmiye le 600 000 zortir kes lêye... :wink:

It is the largest Kurdish city in Rojhelat after Kirmaşan...

However, I have to say - some of the words you wrote, are not Kurdish by root in the last post you made... Like Mey = Arabic... In Kurdish, Wine = Şeraw (War water)... This name also reveals the purpose, or should I say, one of the ways in which wine was consumed in Kurdistan in the old days - as a drink to make your blood flood and boil, to make you ready for war... :)

Sipas Kak Diri, ez jî gelek şanazim kû beşdarê foruma Roj Bash Kurdistan im û keyfxweşim kû careka din te dibînim.

Above words are pure Kurdish words all. From different Kurdish dialects and subdialects. Well drinking wine has an ancient history and its own special costumes amoung Kurds. As I know "mey" (modern Persian "mêy") is an Iranian word. I'm not exactly sure but in Avesta there is "maida" meaning "wine" (one of the words difinting "wine" in Avesta). Also there are compositions like "mey-gosar" and "mey-kede" in Persian which are composed of pure Iranian words (gosar : who brings, kede : suffix "place"). Word "şeraw" is Kurdfied form of Arabic "şerab" meaning "drink". Comes from Arabic root "şerebe" which gives "meşrûb" and "şerab" (meaning "drink" both), "şerbet" (originally means "drink" but in Iranian languages means "sweet drink"), "şûrb" ("to drink"). etc.

Interesting topic!

-"Vale" in spanish means "OK". I think kurds mainly from South kurdistan say "Valé" which means "yes", Am I right?

-Pronoum "Tu" in spanish means "You". In kurdmandjî is also "Tu".

-In spanish "Gerrilla", in kurdmandjî "Gerila".

-In spanish "Patata", in kurdmandjî "Pótata"

-In kurdish "Makinâ" means "Car". In spanish, when saying "Máquina" (which pronounces "Mákina") it means "Machine" in english, not car (car is "coche" in spanish).

-And I think motorbike in kurdish is known as "Motor", when in spanish "Motor" means "machine" (in english).

Kurdmanjî is more occidental than some people believe... Bîjî Indoeuropean languages!!

There are some other words in spanish, I will post them...

kurd = bira = beer (eng)

chaqet (suit) = Jacket(eng) chaqueta (spanish)

au (water) = agua (italian, pronounced awa)/aqua(spanish)

and the two last ones I can think of

Kurd (kurdish) = Kurd (all european languages)

Kurdistan (kurdish) = Kurdistan (all european languages)

Ive never heard of vale..maybe u meant "bele" :shock:

Yes I mean that word (but I don't know how to write in kurdish). I mean that the pronunciation in kurdish and in spanis of "bele" are exactly the same (and their meaning so similar; "yes" and "Ok"...

Kurdish: Girîn or Girîyan
Swedish: Grina or Gråta

Also "cry" in English is "girî" very near. Between "k" and "g" are not many differences by the speak.
