What's up guys? Haven't written lately because the internet over here is pretty slow.

I want to give an update on Hewler because I am in Hewler right now :D

I have to disagree with some things about where the money is going. I agree that Hewler needs a hell of a lot of work, but I have never seen so much remodeling and construction work in any place in my life. It is unbelievable over here. There are buildings being rebuilt, new ones going up, highways being developed. There is a lot of construction going on 24 hours of the day. Even huge natural parks are under construction. There is a hell of a lot of trees being planted so don't worry about that.

And all the new stuff is beautiful. Also, the old marketplaces are going to be torn down soon because the buildings are so worn out and they are already starting to build a huge new one. And the castle in the center of the city is being fixed up. They are also planning on moving all those poor families living within the castle walls to new apartment homes in the city. There is a lot of interesting plans underway and they have already been started. Things are looking pretty good.

im sorry to say this but hewler still looks like an arab city. its going to take a long time before they can reverse this. our 'trustworthy' and 'reliable' leaders should focus more of their energy towards planting trees and building parks.

this is a good sign...people worry about how something looks when they own it, not when someone else does!

Great to hear from you Heval! Have a wonderful time!

I'm injured, so I can't type too much.

It is really very silly, but this is what is wrong.

Last year I was working about 12 hours a day on the computer, for good causes, school and work. I got a "repetitive motion injury". It makes my shoulder blade, my collar bone, my right arm and my two smallest fingers on the right of my hand hurt, and then the fingers go numb and I can't move them. The answer is to rest and it get's better. I have a very hard time resting though because I have to work and research for school so no rest for me....but the more rest I can give it the better.

Always make sure you use the proper ergonomic posture and desk if you are going to spend hours and hours a day typing.

Thanks for caring....just wanted to let you know it's not serious, it's just painful.

Thanks guys. The Doctor said the massage idea only works if you didn't mess yourself up for almost a year. Something about the repetitive motion" causing nerves and fibrous tissue to pinch and some other stuff. He said the massage might help if I STOPPED TYPING for a week afterwards:lol:...needless to say, I don't listen as well as I should.

Diri: I was going to do a blog posting on the Henna, but when I read those stories of superstition and marrying girls at 13 and going to the local Aga to get permission to marry it just sounds so funny. I just can't imagine it! I think people always think of Jews as more modern, but that's obviously not true at all!!! We were backwards hicks together in history LOL! 60-100 years ago, both Kurds and Jews were acting exactly the same....as they had both acted for 2,600 years, and not a thing had changed  . I guess we can conclude this means there is hope for everyone if we can change all that in a couple generations.

You know, there are Jews in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and there were two Jews in Afghanistan...what are they doing there? I don't know, but I'll bet they act just like the locals  The two Jews in Afghanistan would not speak to each other for 20 years. One of those two men just died about 6 months ago....leaving one Jew in Afghanistan...I wonder if he regrets not talking to the other guy for all those years?

Anyway...back to the topic...the pictures I've seen from Hewler are quite beautiful but I'm sure that things will be "beautified" more as we can see from Heval's post they are planting trees, building parks and businesses. This will make everyone's lives better....even the government cant' control ALL of that money.

In my economic report I found that the KRG was asking the contractors to bring some labor with them because there is not enough labor in Kurdistan to do all the construction. WOW! That's GREAT!

silav, heval!

hehehe, yes, the internet can be problematic in hewlêr :)

your description sounds accurate to me. near the airport, by the road that goes into ainkawa, they are planning to build 4500 new apartments and while i was there they had already started. they were working on those into the night. across the road from there, they were starting to build houses. i also saw that they were starting freeways and had started new surface roads.

i also liked the murals they had painted on the concrete barricades in front of the parliament building. i thought that looked much better than that ugly, gray concrete. too bad they don't do the same thing in front of the sheraton.

in addition, some of the people in the krg are working like horses because so much needs to be done. i think that much has been done already, considering that the kurds started with virtually nothing after the 1991 uprising. these people should be commended for their devotion to and care of kurdistan.
