What happened to them?

Was anybody in here involved with it?

Welcome Berxwedan! :D

I wonder about the same thing... Although I have come to the conclusion that this movement wasn't an independent movement - rather it was a political movement that was lead by the KDP and PUK so that they could press for more from the US and the Iraqi goverment - having hard facts on the table saying "Kurds want a country of their own" would be too much for the US to deny... 2 million people and that was only the people in the three governorates...

So they use it as a means to push for better conditions for their "marriage with Iraq"...

Well - thats what I think anyway - Come on - not even the US or the UN could have stopped a popular call for independence - from 5 million people... And they would have had no trouble in doing so either...

I had the same impression as you, Diri, that the movement was not independent and tightly controlled by the KDP and PUK. That was unfortunate because I think that it would have been beneficial if the will of the people - regardless of which party they belonged to - could have had a voice of its own.

I do not have that impression Nistiman, the KRM have been highly critical, throughout their campaign, of both Kurdish parties. Of course both the PUK and the KDP have attempted to control, silence (call it what you will) the KRM, but from what I've seen and heard, they failed.

I recently met with one of the KRM organisers and suffice to say, the fight is far from over. They have been working tirelessly and attempting to bring their work (and the will of the Kurdish people) to the attention of the Western governments, the UN etc.

Things have changed though, Talabani is now President and obviously times are critical for the people of Kurdistan, the KRM do need to plan their next move carefully and in order to do that, they need to assess the movement on the ground and the wants and needs of the people that matter, those in Kurdistan... from what I gather, that's exactly what the organisers are doing right now.

I'm sure we'll be hearing from the KRM again, once those assessments have been carried out :)

Berxwedan, are you THE Berxwedan.... welcome, welcome, welcome from one of your original Berxy Babes

Refuremdum was supported by many lower ranking officials form all major parties....
Anyhow... it is impossible to openly move from independence in Iraq at the moment... However, the ARabs will never accept federalism... this will give us the pretext we need for declaring independence.... (However, Kirkuk and Khanaqin have to be incoperated first...
