I see another error in the poll. Zazaki actually came from Hewrami when Hewrami speakers began migrating west. But then again Sorani came from Kurmanci so I guess we could divide and combine these groups all day.

About Sineyi Sorani...I speak Sineyi and I actually believe Sineyi Sorani has more Arabic in it. While I was in Kurdistan, many of the Hewleri people used a lot of Arabic in their Sorani. I find the Silemani Sorani more pure than all of them if we compare these three. It uses much less Arabic than Sineyi does. The only strange thing is how a Turkish word sneaks into their Sorani once in a while.

It's interesting because I don't think these present day borders are the biggest factor in the influence of our dialects. I think it has a lot more to do with our past.

And as far as grammar, you can say the grammar of all the dialects differ but I think the most similar are Sorani and Kurmanci. I think Kurmanci just has a few extra rules like how to make a sentence negative, and the plurality of nouns ending in a vowel is slightly different than it is in Sorani.

And Hewrami has a lot of grammar similarities with Gorani.

well aradlan was a king familly in this region...so everything here is caleld aradalani also...

like in kurdish old maps they call sena and citeis around "Ardalan"
and also the langauge is speaken there...

in fact Ardalani is nothing different from other dailects...it is just sorani with a little diffrent acent.

hi there,

well the reason that sorani is called sorani is because of the Soran Immarat. Soran Immarat had also bahdini_(kurmanci saro) speakers, cuz at a time it stretched from hawler to erzerum. So the the name sorani is a Little misleading.

what do you think ??

I will rather die than say salam, we know that the Kurdish word is available , and it is silav/w. Why should we say the Arabic one rather the one that already exist in sorani(kurmanji xaro) ??

Kardox - your Kurdish is enough to serve your cause!

You are absolutly RIGTH - For an assimilated Kurd to say "We don't have "HELLO" in Kurdish" is NOT STRANGE... He doesnæt know - he has been "arabized"...

NO - Don't STAMP Kurds and say "these mix arabic with Kurdish and - they mix Turkish with Kurdish and - those mix Farsi with Kurdish" - THAT ISN'T HOW THINGS WORK!

IF YOUR KURDISH IS BAD THEN YOU DON'T NEED TO TRY TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER BY DRAGING OTHER KURDS INTO THE SAND! GO AND LEARN THE WORDS IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEM!

I SINCERLY HATE IT WHEN KURDS MIX TURKISH/ARABIC AND FARSI WORDS WITH OUR BEAUTIFULL LANGUAGE...

Like Kardox says - IT IS AVAILABLE - then how come YOU don't know them Mosul??? Don't you say "shev bash" / "roj bash" / êvar bash" to your parents even???

Diri kurdish in Iraq, syria, and parts of turkey is mixed with lots of arabic, there is nothing wrong with that, we have lived with them for thousands of years thats why you see their influence in our language. Your an irani kurd? well your language has plently of farsi in it, you might not even know it. we grow up speaking our dialects and it is part of us, we dont change our language as we grow up.

thats not fair diri, are you saying that all the kurds in turkey, iraq, syria, lebanon, are inferior to Irani kurds? you sound more like a Irani Nationlist than a kurd to me. Its sad that they allow people like you to be moderators of forums like these.

Jump in whenever you feel like...

Stop being so biased... Iraqi Kurds have NOT done more for Kurdistan... And Kurdistani you are wrong - In Kurmancî (in Iran and Turkey) we use the terms Rojbash Shevbash Êvarbash... I do not, I repeat, I do not speak for the Soranî Kurds...

Soranî has mixed much with Persian - look you say "I can" Soranî= "Min etwanim" Persian= "Mitewanim"... Just one example of how Persian has influenced Soranî... And you use that term quite often in your daily doings...

Arabized? Why? Appereantly he uses the term "selam" instead of any given Kurdish one... And he admits that he uses Arabic terms in some occasions... A simple "Silaw" would be great... And now that he has learned it here at the forum - he is so stubborn that he doesn't want to admit "Silaw" as a Kurdish word... I BET MOSUL SAYS "SHUKRAN" instead of "SPAS"...

Farsî/Persian has no "w" sound so how could they use that word?

If you don't speak Soranî, then why are you assuming it is so mixed? There is just as many Kurdî words in Soranî as there are in Kurmancî...

Heval - you left out an important word:

I wrote:

I said I don't speak FOR the Soranî dialect... I perfectly understand and comprehend Soranî... I have no problems understanding it... And I am not assuming - I gave you an example of how mixed it can be...

Show me why it isn't so mixed... :)

Did you just edit that post? -About the "W" I am writing in Latin - Not Arabic - so expect me to convert any sound I hear into Latin form... If you don't like the W then I will make it "Min etuanim"... Happy?

I understand you are saying that, but then why do you say it is so mixed with Farsî/Persian??

How do you want me to show you? I cannot sit here and provide an entire lesson on the Soranî Kurdî Language...

I can only tell you that Soranî has just as many Kurdî words as Kurmancî does and just because Kurds in certain cities happen to use "Silam" or "Merheba" doesn't mean that "Silaw" is not part of the Soranî language. People have just picked up the habits of using foreign words...

People pick up habits, but both languages, Soranî and Kurmancî are impressibly pure. Did you know in Badînan about 15 years ago, people used to say "Gellek mamnûn" before they started using "Gellek sipas" again?
