An MP on SLC announced that, Massoud Barzani in his previous visit to Bulgaria , had put in an order for 300 tanks from Bulgaria and Russia.

Ihsan Awda announced today from the Iraqi parliament that "Barzani had placed an order for 300 tanks from Bulgaria and Russia in his previous visit to Bulgaria".

"we will try to cancel these purchases , and we are also to announce that Barzani was successful to stop equipping the Iraqi army with heavy weaponry as well as the F16 purchases to Iraq" he added.

i hope thats not an iraqi lie to make Kurds look like the ones who are itching after war. i really hope its true,and hopefully (insallah) the ones we will be buying from russia will be T-90,who is both cheaper and BETTER than that downgraded M1A1 iraq uses. and we will also increase our army`s strenght,who might be a sign that independence is near, and berzani is arming peshmerga to the teeth in case of war.

agreed. Russian tanks are alot better than american,not to mention cheaper. if we don`t get T-90,i would even be happy for T-72s. T-72 is a very good tank.
The M1A1 proved successful in iraqi war because:
1. the iraqi tanks newest ammo had WENT OUT OF PRODUCTION IN 1973! (tells alot)
2. iraqis useed the Asad babil. Asad babil is a downgrade of a downgrade of a downgrade. T-72+downgrade=T-72M... T-72M+downgrade=Saddams Tank (it was a tank iraq produced before asad babil that they called for saddams tank). Saddams Tank+Downgrade= Asad babil.
basically,T-72+Downgrade+downgrade+downgrade=Asad babil. Even the T-62 is superior to Asad babil.
3. Iraqis were not good trained.
4. Alot of the soldiers surrendered or deserted.
5. The iraqis,without knowing it,used TRAINING AMMO FOR WAR. The soviets didn`t trust saddam,and therefor didn`t sell him their best ammo nor tanks. (They sold him T-72M and said it was T-72B,and sold him training ammo instead of Real ammo )
Our soldiers would never desert or surrender. Our army is good trained,and could easily become better trained if we payed the russians to learn us to use the T-72s properly. I hope we don`t use the old ass shit ammo saddams army used,and im pretty sure russia won`t trick us to buying training ammo. Many iraqi tank experts knew they were tricked,but didn`t tell saddam cuz saddam did execute the ones who said so. He trusted soviet with all his heart. Our experts will tell instantly if they see somethings wrong.

could be true, since 1 t-90 costs around 4 million each and they talk about 300 tanks

300 x 4 = 1200 million = 1 billion and 200 million

Yes, there would be no benefit to us at all. The Shias and Sunnis can fight it out among themselves, we could easily use the sunni regions to export oil if they were to separate though.

I hope we do get the tanks from Russia, but also trainers. No use of having tanks, but not being able to use them. I'm sure that's been taken care of already though.

i did some research on russia and bulgaria,and i am doubtful they will be T-90. Russia have 703 T-90 tanks,and 300 would effectively reduce russias own military capability. We COULD have bought a few T-90s,but that may account from Only 10 to 20 (T-90) Tanks.
However,we could get T-72M2 from bulgaria,as they have 120 operating and 350 in reserve. Russia is operating 1200 T-72 tanks,with 8000 in reserve (Russia have the largest tank inventory in the world). Russia have halted it production of T-90,and is starting to upgrade Their T-72s. This would be good for kurds if we buy tanks from russia. Alot of their T-72s are upgraded. Not to mention russia is now willing to sell T-72Bs,which is the best model of T-72,and they would even sell it with upgrades. If we have an army of 300 T-72B (with upgrades) we could take down iraqs Downgraded M1A1s.

Not to mention peshmerga operates RPG-29,which insurgents have used to fuck up American M1A1 (without downgrades) tanks alot. US don`t trust Iraqi army. they were not allowed to buy RPG-29s,cuz US feared they could fall into insurgent hands. Many iraqi soldiers gave up their fight against insurgents and handed them their weapons, "we will not fight against our brothers". However,they (US) did not say anything against it when peshmerga used RPG-29. This means US trusts Peshmerga more than Iraqi army

but will all the 300 be tanks or will it include APC/IFV?
