Guys. If the Peshmerga does posses or is planning to posses such weapons, and we can't find any information on it, maybe it's better left that way? if the authorities want to keep it a secret, why should we do the spying for others that are undoubtedly checking this website on a daily and possibly hourly basis?

Sami al-Askari, who is also a close aide to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, said Saturday the Iraqi Constitution does not allow local governments to possess heavy weapons.

The Iraqi lawmaker demanded the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) give up its tanks and warplanes if the KRG intends to remain within a united Iraq.

Askari made the remarks at a time when Iraqi Kurdistan authorities recently approved the possession of any type of weapons by the KRG.

Iraqi Kurdistan authorities claim the Constitution has not specified the types of arms Kurds can possess.

Reports say the Iraqi Kurdistan government currently possesses a large fleet of Russian-made warplanes left over from the Saddam-era.

The latest report comes two days after Senior Iraqi cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called for dialog to resolve tensions between the central government in Baghdad and the KRG.

On April 26, Sadr told a press conference in the northern city of Arbil that his visit to the capital of the Kurdistan Region was aimed at easing tensions between the central and regional governments.

 warplanes? when will they stop with the lies?

@ sinjar

no the peshmerga never lost any of its numbers as iraq was suppose to pay for the budget of Peshemrga , so no money no honey ;).

@ rando

well they dont know what to do , lol 1st we are accused of ordering 300 tanks , now we have warplanes !! wow i did not know that but if we do then its awesome news but i doubt anything coming from these ppl , like the rhetoric of Al Shahristan use to make about ExxonMobil decision to freeze its contracts with KRG  .

Anyways , it is good news that KRG is pressing on the issue as the constitution truly does not point to what kind of weapons the regional government should or must have , thus we can go buy war planes as well and there is nothing they can do to stop us , and we will show the ppl selling us the weapon the "iraqi constitution" to shut these bunch of losers up.

iraqis coming to agreements with kurds ? must be the end of the world  , the article is nonsense so is the iraqi politicians , they owe $1.5 billion of Peshemrga budget , when they pay for it then they can ask for some honey , LOL what am i saying , they are now asking KRG to hand over all its weapons  . i like how they still live in the dreams lands. and they again rubbish talk , oh we are the ones should be protecting iraq , lol where were they when turkey butchered 7 civilian people who were all one family last year !?? i am not talking about their military support  but a condemnation statements would have been enuff !! i dont think so , iran did not ask for such statement so it wont happen  .

they want our weapons ? them they should come and get it :D .
